I think the issue is the aspect ratio of the rear glass. Notice the apex of the arc is very close to the top of the glass. Unfortunately unless they can invent a wiper that telescopes at the lower ends of the arc, that's just the way it has to be.
Mercedes has a mono front wiper on some of their vehicles.
Probably not worth the added complexity and cost for the rear of the R1S.

These rear wipers seem about the same size as the ones on a X5 (which are not hidden either and its a "premium" vehicle) and its really not an issue. I think we can give Rivian a pass here - there are plenty of other things to worry about for the R1S :)

For those who have seen an R1S, how does it compare to the Wagoneer? Seems like a similar size/shape, maybe wagoneer is larger?

The Wagoneer is significantly larger at 215" long vs R1S at 200.8".

Thanks! The Wagoneer, to me, is a great size. R1S will be great, but would have been nice if it was closer to that size. Although, maybe the frunk negates the need for as much space behind the 3rd row abs in reality it is a better use of size/space.

Really love the look of the R1S. The lines are cleaner than the R1T. The rear passenger door windows make more sense to me on the R1S. And I like the flatter bumper accent on the R1S verse the almost exhaust looking accent line on the R1T.
I agree. It looks a lot better and more functional to me. Consolidated space while shorter. More distance between the roof racks let my kayaks be more stable on top and I can sleep in there if I end up selling the house to pay for repairs after warranty.

As good as it looks, it would be even classier with less chunky rear light. Something like this:

Is it just me, or is anyone else thinking about having black wrap applied to the back column so there's a clean bottom and clear black top? If I was any good at Adobe I'd mock it up :)

Rear wipers mounted through the glass are basically industry standard these days. The Mach E also has a comically too-short rear wiper. At least the R1S is attempting to use one as long as possible, Ford didn't even bother to try.

These vertically short windows need a cam wiper setup like the old single-blade Mercedes in order to cover more area.

This is terrible, even though I get why it is like that, if they make is any longer, it will not clear the top section and will get stuck. Oddly enough it is also mounted to the glass, and not the rear door. That would have given 1-2 more inches of clearance.
It’s mounted to the glass because that portion opens separately from the lower part.
