random note, RivianStories shared someone who has a "new truck" in the Seattle area today. I can't promise that they aren't an employee, but based on their prior posts... I'd be pretty surprised if they're an employee.

.....These all had paper plates so they are all recently delivered. They are getting them out to people so just need a little patience and we should start seeing lot more.....
There have been several members here that know some people, or know some people that know someone that has a Rivian, that is not an employee.

I have no reason to doubt anyone. The only comment I can make is that I don't personally know anyone, or anyone on this forum that has a Rivian, who has shared their pre-order date and estimated delivery date according to November's email.

There are other forums beside this one, that some members here follow as well. Are there any deliveries to non-employees on these forums, that have shared their pre-order date, along with their estimated delivery dates?

Ugh, it makes the waiting even harder when they're delivering to people basically next door. Sometimes I wish I'd gone with Black Mountain - that's the only thing that pushed me back to May-June, from what I can tell.

I would agree with this assessment as well. Seems like lots of people who know someone who knows someone that has one. With the exception of IWantTesla (which I don't truly feel represents an actual customer like myself - and I don't mean that in any negative way) it seems odd that at least one of these forum members who have been here since 2018 have not taken delivery. Or maybe I am just delusional and completely out of touch.

Died of old age during the wait

It really just feels like things aren't going according to plan, doesn't it? Quite clearly we are well beyond the point where it makes sense to trust Rivian's public statements about delivery dates, so we've gotta go with what we are seeing (and not seeing). The conclusions I'm drawing are negative.

Like you, I truly appreciate IWATesla's contributions, and do believe everything that he's told us, including that he's not an employee. Nonetheless his (quite reasonable from a personal perspective) decision not to tell us about his order date, original delivery timeline, and other delivery communications, make me think that he's somehow in a different situation than the rest of us.

I'm not sure what got him to the front of the line, and I don't mean that negatively or conspiratorially. It's just that something's making my Spidey-sense tingle about his situation being unique, given that Nov. 2018 preorders don't have firm dates yet, and it looks like there'll be no February deliveries to forum members.

I wonder if the delays in getting the delivery dates onto the configurator are because the projections are going to slip again unless they can really accelerate their ramp...

If you Direct Message him, he will tell you what the deal is with his order. I did a while back, and have complete respect for what he has done and is doing for the R1T, but I would say it's somewhere between an employee delivery and an actual customer delivery. And again, I'm not casting stones at anyone for anything.

remember when people said there was a cut-off to launch editions for employees long ago?
makes me wonder if they have 3 levels of acceptable quality:

1) service vehicles -- not quite up to par
2) employee delivery -- ok quality, not perfect
3) external customer delivery -- desired quality

would make the used R1T market in 2 years look interesting.

Plus, the charging infrastructure still needs to catch up.
I see folks say this, and I'm curious what it'd need to be for you to consider it 'caught up'?

For me, I think it's already good enough - it's not full optimized, but 99% of my driving can be handled quite easily by what's out there today. I work from home, my wife teaches 3 miles away. So, honestly, something like a Rav 4 Prime could have us running on battery about 65% of the time.

It's about 90 miles to Mt. Hood or the Coast (at least the parts we frequent). One son lives in Bend (150 miles) the other Eugene (100 miles) Folks are about 65 miles away.

There just isn't a drive that we do with any regularity that can't be handled with 250 miles of usable range, which I can get by plugging the truck in overnight (If I go to Bend that's an overnight trip or at least has a long enough pit stop i can get enough of a charge to get back home).

I understand that some unknown percentage of folks want to tow hundreds of miles or go out and overland for a week. I also understand folks who live in less densely populated areas w/o charging infrastructure, but you're in NJ by your bio, and it looks to me like that's far from an EV charging wasteland?

My config also included a 5 seat, extra wheel and wall mount. That being said I have had many discussions with Rivian and have been one of their ambassadors that has led to more than 5 personal friends and Family preorders, and then exponential additional preorders from there. So if you would prefer an R1T or different R1S I’m sure they would be amicable as they have given me the go ahead to pick my available model and they will ship it.
Uh can't anyone change anything at anytime with the exception of getting an LE?

1 - Yes, it did. Do you instantly give up on everything in life the moment something unexpected happens?

2 - This is simply not true. 2 months ago it was true. It is not now true. What's the problem/point?

3 - This is standard operating procedure for any internal beta-tested product. Why does the employees lack of communications cause a problem for you? If because of #8 - the comms shouldn't be coming from the employees anyway, and no major corporation works that way.

4 - Many? Care to post some evidence? I don't think we've even heard that Rivian has delivered 5 vans to Amazon, let alone 'many'. Also, they are completely separate production lines and staff, so production on the vans has basically nothing to do with R1T/R1S production.

5 - See #4 - I do not feel in any way that Rivian has made Amazon a priority *at the expense* of the rest of us.

6 - Which expectations? The ones Rivian themselves published during the Q3 earnings call? They missed their goal by ~10%. I don't consider that to be very significant, given the context.

7 - I've had a test drive. Many others have as well. I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to yet. I guess you've forgotten that at minimum you get a free 7 day test drive when you take delivery and can return the vehicle no questions asked within that time limit. Seems reasonable.

8 - Yes, on this point I have nothing to say. Rivian has done an incredibly poor job at communicating accurately and frequently. Given the world we live in right now, they should have been communicating more, not less. All that said, I understand why they have done what they have. They have to look at a picture that's a lot bigger than just you or me as an individual, and at the end of the day, if either of us takes our 1000$ and goes home, they'll still sell every single vehicle they produce, with a backlog, for years.

Enjoy your Lucid that you probably won't get any sooner, will pay more for, and will be less capable than either the R1T or R1S :)
God bless you. Out here doing the Lord's work. All I can do is post laughing emoji's when I read posts like the one you replied. Kudos.

We all know forums are just one more way to compete for likes, so I'm happy to oblige/continue winning ;)
