Open to public or invite only? Venice Spaces is not new. It’s the very first one and former home/shop of Ray Bradbury.

The R2 event today required an RSVP. Otherwise the Venice space is open to the public.

It was cool to get hands on with the Halo wheels. They are pretty cool and make you want to fidget with them all the time. The UX felt snappy as well. There were some bugs, but I expect that out of pre-release software. I still don't know which color I'm leaning towards and they change DRAMATICALLY in different light. I reserved on day 1, an hour or so after the event, and one of the reps said I was likely to be able to grab one this summer. We'll see.

To the OP does the Catalina Cove photos accurately capture the color? I ask because in Rivian’s promotional materials it comes across more as a greenish color whereas in your photos it was definitely more blue. Reminds me of Limestone when that first came out and it photographed differently to real life.

I'm happy that the folks in SoCal get to see a gaggle of R2's, and freely admit that I'm jealous. I only wish Rivian would give a fraction of the love that it showers on that part of country to those of us who live in and near the Cradle of Liberty. I suppose we should be happy that Rivian managed to open both a SC and Rivian Space in our region and fully expect that we will have an R2 on display at the latter location around the time of the next vernal equinox.

It is due to the sheer number of EV’s out here. In the neighborhood around the Venice space yesterday (unfortunately the only place to park) the majority of the cars were EV’s - Teslas, Rivians, Polestars, Hyundais, Porsches…. I had to park 4 blocks away.

Imagine a color shift between blue and teal in the Sun

I anticipated the parking issue and stayed at a hotel nearby so I could walk.

It’s really quite beautiful, but I just don’t know if I can buy one until there’s a black wheel and possibly “black out” package. But miss on not having the black accents. But goodness, I love it.

Are you an R1 owner? If not, then if you have a good chance to get one this summer then I would as well. Great news

This car changes EVERYTHING.
For Rivian, not the entire market? I don’t get it. Seems like just another generic SUV, at an OK price, with a normal set of options. I guess that’s the change for Rivian?

The Rav4 and Model Y have been interchangeably the best selling vehicles on the planet. Sales doesn't always mean something is better, but it is another option. Kind of a marriage of both the Rav4 and Model Y to be honest.

It will be both good for Rivian and the market as a whole. A vehicle that can take from customers from Tesla and traditional ICE customers curious about EVs. I think the hype is warranted, even if not everyone's cup of tea.

The generic SUV at an okay with price with normal set of options does unsell it though. Generic? It's similar to other vehicles but Rivians are distinguishably their own thing. The launch edition at under $60k is a steal performance wise and still being over 300+ miles of range with very promising tech. Better packing on a dedicated EV platform means it will have more space than a traditional ICE vehicle including flat floor for second row and frunk + subtrunk. Boxy design means it will have more space than the Model Y.

Obviously opinions differ, but I agree with the original poster. This is a big deal. It's not a wet dream of 400+ miles, trimotor, self driving, massaging seats, charging under 10 minutes people wanted but on what we can get currently, it's a pretty strong offering.

This is a Huge deal! the quality of the materials is on another level compared to the Model Y and others in this class. Also, Rivian's decision to style like a traditional box design is not new but unique for an EV. It was very interesting to hear that the majority of the people attending did not own Rivian's. From the conversations I overheard they all had Tesla's or other cars.

I believe everyone that wants a Launch car will get one. It would be foolish for Rivian to not fulfill all the people that select defiantly interested. I suspect of all the reservations the people interested in the Launch spec are only 20-35k of the preorders or less. I may be unique in this opinion, but I don't think we see any non-LE cars this year.

Right, so a big deal for Rivian but nothing at all for the market all around. Making generic cars that people will buy is a market for sure. The challenge for Rivian that I see is buyers asking, why would I risk the subpar service and support compared to major brands when this is just another SUV? The R1 has a ton of differentiators.
