Limitations? If you don’t want purple, forest green or a white interior then the LE is a good deal.
Yeah, if the real issue isn't budget then the only "limitation" is for the 1-2% of actual buyers who might buy a purple vehicle. Otherwise it's getting the LE package "free" and remaining patient if you want forest green or the light interior.

May I ask, what is so appealing about the Light interior? Is it just because it was always a preference for early R1t and R1s owners? So matter of personal preference? Is there something about the dark/grey interior that functions poorly? I’ve had both types across many car types, and in a vehicle such as this I DO prefer a darker interior overall, but that is really just personal preference, quality of materials and function notwithstanding.

Hopefully for me, a day one minute 10 orderer, wanting the LE, not wanting eggplant - I mean Borealis or Launch Green OR Coastal Cloud interior and with no prior ownership, hopefully that means an R2 for 2026 ;-)

For me:
  • It overall "brightens" the interior so you don't feel like you're sitting in the Batcave
  • The lighter color helps keep the seats a bit cooler (in my observation) during the summer months, as it doesn't absorb as much heat
  • It's just different. I've had over a dozen cars in my 30 years of driving. First car was an '87 Pontiac Sunbird with a blue cloth interior. The only other non-black interiors I've had in that time were my 1995 Camry LE (tan leather) and my 2017 Subaru Outback (light tan leather). I'm ready for something other than black.

simply personal preference for folks. some think a lighter interior is cooler but if your vehicle, any vehicle, is sitting out in the heat all day it's an oven regardless of interior color, paint color, or glass roof.

I also prefer a darker interior and would not own a white-ish/cream interior.

In the southeast, black interiors get crazy hot. Black interiors are boring. I don't want white like Tesla does, but coastal cloud is a more light grey it seems. Ideally companies would bring back the light tan and brown interiors, but it seems like those are "out of style" these days and it's always some amalgamation of black and greys for interior color choices these days.

Of course we can all wish the "limited edition" forest edge interior they just released for R1 would be available on R2.

My first Model 3 was black interior (only option at launch). I got white for my second Model 3 and absolutely loved it. Felt way more open inside. Both of my wife’s Model Ys have been white interior and if it had been an option my Cybertruck would be too. Black interior feels too closed in and gets too hot Coastal Cloud is even better than white IMO

How do you see the launch edition on their website?
Right now it's the only version of the Performance trim that Rivian is offering. Go to Rivian's page for R2 (rivian.com/r2), click on "Design Yours", and you will see a section that describes the Launch Edition.

As I understand it, the LE will be available with the light iinterior - just in late 2026.

I also just prefer all black interior. To me it's a cleaner look. I especially hate light colored headliners.
