I never used the frunk in Model Y, used it al the time in my R1S. The powered up and down made all the difference.

That would be a bummer if R2 frunk is too hot. I thought it would be perfect for small grocery trips as my use case.If I used my Frunk more than 2-3 times a year I'd be surprised. Honestly, with my Gen 1 R1S here in Florida and not much heat shielding between the front motors, HVAC fans and the frunk interior, it seems like it's always 120 degrees in there. Too hot for groceries. I only keep my charge adaptors in there..
You need to think of the frunk as being like the old school trunk on a sedan. I'm in PA and use our frunk for groceries (including ice cream) year-round, but I'm only 7-10 minutes from the store. That would be a bummer if R2 frunk is too hot. That doesn't sound that bad then. Other person in Florida made it seem like there was potentially extra heat from other sources like the motors and HVAC. Might have more to do with their southern location than frunk? You need to think of the frunk as being like the old school trunk on a sedan. They will not add powered frunk for years (if ever). If it was going to be included on these models then it would be in from the start since they have been working on this for years and it isn’t new or novel technology.as others have mentioned - on our MY and M3 frunks (not powered), we don't use it at all - not worth the hassle - it requires multiple tries to close by pressing right at the center etc - discourages almost anyone to "not even try". But on the R1T, the powered frunk is used by all (kids, wife, myself) and if not daily, definitely regularly. This is purely because it is quite spacious and it is powered - just press a button and move on - no need to wait to even validate. E.g. - going to an event where wife doesn't need to carry her purse, frunk is the preferred place.
I do expect 2027 R2 will have the powered built-in for premium versions at least. There has to be some reason for 2026 R2 owners to upgrade(wife might approve actually!!).
Oh - there's definitely extra heat around the frunk. I watched my frunk temp hit 115 while at a long charge at a L3 charger when the ambient temp was in the low 50's. I'm just saying that it's not an issue for most grocery/Costco runs because they're likely to be local. Grab one of the data loggers if you're interested in knowing. It stores a lot of data and will pull it into your phone when you sync. That doesn't sound that bad then. That makes sense. It basically doesn't get hot enough for shorter trips since none of those motors and HVAC in the frunk area run long enough.Oh - there's definitely extra heat around the frunk. Huh? The frunk will most likely be utilized quite often and if not daily by most.I'm guessing you're a rare outlier who uses the frunk that often. That's a bummer for you, but I doubt 90% of owners will be in their frunk more than weekly. Rivian had to make a lot of decisions to lower the cost and complexity of the R2 so they could meet volume and price targets, and the motorized trunk and charge port were easy deletes IMO.
