But everybody still believes that Autonomy+ will be point-to-point (like MY!) by EOY, right?
I hope no one thinks it will be anything like FSD 14 out the gate. If it’s FSD 11-12 that will be totally acceptable. Heck HW3 owners just now got v14 lite. If Rivian can somehow pull off a v12 FSD from the get go it’s a win.

I think Rivian will catch up within 2 years.

Don't forget that AI development tools didn't exist when Tesla developed FSD. Software development has changed radically in the last 1–2 years, and it's much faster to develop new things now.
And they could also hire some Tesla engineers :)

I don't think Tesla engineers working on FSD can spell 'lidar' any longer, they've been focused on camera-only for so long....

Great point but they can still work on LE.
I’m going to get an LE but I really hope LiDAR is a game changer. How this evolves over these next few years will be interesting.

I don’t see anything wrong in here that requires Rivian to do anything different. EPA estimates are NOT highway range estimates @70 mph. I have been driving EV for the last four years and never thought 250 mile range was an issue.
Agreed. Just drove a Kia EV9 from Minneapolis to Maine and back. 3,708 miles. No issues.

They're actually not that expensive these days compared to 10 and even 5 years ago. Adding 10kW would have been around $2000, something people would easily consider on the R2 in a "Max Pack" version. I think the real problem was space to put them in the R2.

But if you consider that the IX3 as around 108kw in a smaller frame it appears no reason that they can't do the same in the R2..was as set to get an R2 and sell my BMW I4 but now not so sure..love the presumed huge range on the IX3 but just don't like the charging port on the non tesla side...my area still has old tesla super chargers and can never seem to find two spots open to charge the rare time I travel. Was planning on family travel with the R2 as I could charge in St louis at several superchargers but not sure I want to deal with multiple more stops in the winter or longer trips to Wisconsin...wish they had at least 300 miles...

I purchased an R2 but seriously considered the IX3 for its faster charging and more range. That said, I learned on my IX50 that even decent highway range on an EV can be seriously compromised by wind and/or cold. With that in mind I have a Lincoln Aviator (ICE) for distance and winter travel and the R2 for light off roading and more locally focused travel, generally less than 200 miles per day. I enjoy the R2 but I’m sure the IX3, though more expensive and less off road capable, will go at least 25% further on a charge. I’m still waiting for an EV that will drive 300 miles at 80mph in the dead of winter, leaving a 15% charge buffer.

The IX3 is technologically awesome but I get filled with rage when I see that interior and steering wheel. I can easily see how I'd be frustrated trying to drive it and use all those controls. Luckily for me, road tripping is not something I care about so I'm perfectly ok with R2's range and charging limitations. It's biggest flaw for me is the glass roof with no motorized shade.
