Anyone know of any options that will fit the R2? Find a couple on Amazon and another 3rd party site but not sure of the fit. Probably pretty universal based on dimension but curious if anyone has tried one.

It's not touch sensitive, it's a torque sensor.

After a little digging- turns out it's a combo of both in both vehicles. Question being, if it senses torque is the capacitive not necessary? Or is that purely to guarantee that a human is touching it. If so, it wouldn't work with any kind of glove on. Anybody know?

The reason I asked is you can see Mike from ThunderVolt Auto simply touching the steering-wheel to keep UHF active. So definitely some sort of capacitive touch. -

The torque will override the capacitive, at least on R1. When driving long distances using HWA without providing any torque input (only a light finger on the wheel for several hours) it will prompt you to provide some torque to the wheel just as a backup. Unfortunately, there is no co-steer in Gen 1 so the torque input required often disengages HWA. So glad I upgraded to a Comma.

Oh, and there are gloves that provide this capability. Look for gloves that are marketed as touch screen compatible or other such verbiage. There will likely be a small pad on the index finger and thumb which will provide the capacitance needed.

On a cold winter morning I would not want anything to come between me and my heated steering wheel.

I got this one. It fits perfectly in my R2 and I’ve had a steering wheel cover on my Rivian since the R1 S launch never interfered with anything in regards to driving our ultimate hands-free.

I just like the thicker feel of a steering wheel in my hands. I don’t get heated steering wheel, but in Southern California that’s not really a problem.

Hmmm, no plans at the moment for covers. We will keep thinking about it.

I doubt it’s actually capacitive, its more likely that the in car camera sees the touch, not FEELs the touch.. if there is torque input, that too seems to be unreliable whether or not that is happening per some other posters in another thread. It would make sense though.

I've never really seen a need for a steering wheel cover in recent cars. I use Grotts 3:1 leather cleaner/conditioner on the seats and always wipe the steering wheel. They always hold up fine.
