This worked for me (after many other failed methods/attempts)- Topec 36mm bolt extractor. It was alot easier than expected. If your reading this thread, you're probably in a similar jam, trying to figure out how to get that stripped bolt out of your truck. Hope this helps!

Shoutout to t-bone! I used the Topec 36mm extractor as recommended by t-bone and it worked like a champ to remove the two stripped bolts -- one that I stripped and one that was most likely stripped at the factory. A word of advice, if you are trying to install the EVBase running boards DO NOT use the L-shaped tool that it comes with, or you too will strip the bolts. Spend a few extra bucks on a quality Torx Plus 55 bit and save yourself a lot of frustration.

They ship theirs with a cheap IKEA-esque L-shaped TP55? tsk tsk tsk

I used this TP55 bit with a impact driver and had no issues. Being a brand I've never heard of, I had doubts. But, in the end, didn't even need the recommended extractor kit. Since I forgot to return it, if anyone needs it, let me know.

just a note that the ev sportsline boards come with a tp55 bit that fit perfectly when I did mine. I used a breaker bar and held the bit in place with one hand while applying pressure. All came out just fine. Then used a torque wrench and blue threadlock. Don't recall the specs but they were included in the ev sportsline instructions and set by Rivian.
Have to agree that these kinds of bolts are a pain and seem poor choice vs a hex bolt.

torx plus in particular is much more assembly friendly than hex head or even normal torx.
also torx/torx plus is much more suited to a flat or button head fastener than internal hex because it's way harder to strip out the head

Does this grab the outside diameter of the head?

Great to know. I have a set of EVBase running boards to install. The original purchaser didn’t install them on his truck. Another person told me to be sure I use a TP55 bit after he stripped a bolt using just a T55.

Research EVBase thoroughly before you proceed. Unfortunate you gave them $ already.

I had a similar issue with a smaller torx screw I couldn't remove from the jounce line. I measured with the wrench and cut the edges off precisely with the angle grinder, so it was fitting in the wrench 🔧. Then I was able to un-wrench it. I would be careful on your case as it's very close to the chassis.
