There is a misconception that all exotic cars need to be constantly handled TLC.
Been following a guy that is "overlanding" in his Porsche. Roof top tent and all.

I'm now searching for AWD Targas for my next vehicle (and quickly learning I can't afford one).

I wish this was prosecuted much more than it is. I can't sit on my porch without hearing modified vehicles accelerate from the stop light 3000 feet away.
Quoted for emphasis. Modified to be loud vehicles are a scourge outside of a closed environment. Ideally, the law would allow license plate look up for the address of the owner and we could return the favor in some manner. o_O

How is it that a certain percentage of society thinks that they can be as socially abrasive as possible?

We are currently battling one punk asshole in our neighborhood with a super loud truck who does a burnout on his way to work nearly every morning. At 5am sharp. The cops are now involved, the parents and another relative are saying, "Boys will be boys, chill out." So we can see that the assholiness is learned from the "parenting."

A real problem. And that same kid, and maybe even parent, does the same thing all over town. We have "open" exhaust sports cars, modified Harley's and ricers, and coal rolling contruction company owners competing to see who can call the most attention to themselves.

Despite complaints, the police don't seem to notice.

And this in an area where literally billions are being spent in a very short amount of time to create a walkable and bike riding friendly environment.

Pointless? Hardly. If you want to go fast , that's not the right Corvette. You want a ZR1X, the AWD 1250 HP car that beats a Model S Plaid in drag racing and any other performance contest.

Roll races are generally intended to give the ICE vehicle a chance. They weren't much of a thing until EVs showed up.
No, it was a thing long before EVs. Roll racing became popular to give RWD (or even FWD) vehicles a chance against AWD vehicles. It also be and a thing to better compare pulling power between two RWD cars by taking out traction issues from a dead stop. I've never liked roll racing because it removes some of the skill of racing.

Roll racing predates AWD by several decades. I was using it in the 70s to get my 70 Mercury Monterey (former highway patrol vehicle) to overcome the launch advantage of assholes in modded Trans Ams.

The Mercury couldn't hook for anything from a stop, so any kind of roll helped. My favorite was a "flying mile." 20 mph start, 1 mile race.

Growing up in Europe, we used to laugh at american cars like the cobra, viper etc etc. Awesome in a straight line but drive like a boat around the corners. Now go look at some of the most treasured sports cars, even though straight line speed was not that great, they rewarded driver skill with amazing handling;

Lotus Elan & Elise
Alpine A110 Berlinette
Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione
Lancia Stratos HF
Alfa Romeo TZ/TZ2
TVR Griffith/Chimaera
Caterham
BMW 2002
Porsche 944

Sportscars are about the whole package. Drag racing cars and drawing conclusions on whats better is kinda dumb, just my POV.

Super cars have always been pointless unless one takes it to the track, or enjoys getting tickets.

Well, since you put in these simple terms, there are so much more to supercars but its socially incorrect to say these days and we all know what they are so there's that :)

I love supercars, not the issue, but one can't really enjoy the potential of a Veyron legally on the road. They're still really cool.

Sorry, I know exactly what you're going through.. we had a guy with a hog blast down our street at about that same time every weekday morning (barring heavy rain or snow) for almost a full year straight. Thankfully it suddenly stopped and we all (us and the neighbors) thought he must have gotten in a serious accident or moved from the area. Either way we were happy. It used to scare the hell out of us when we sleeping and had windows open for fresh air and this jerkoff with virtually no mufflers gave it everything it had to hit 75mph on our residential street at 4:45am every morning

I think the make sense because launch control 0-60 times are meaningless in real world. Probably even on a race track.
