I don't have a drone, but I'll cruise by the holding yard and keep an eye out. Might be hard to tell the R2 from the R1S at a distance though.
I think the size and shape of the roof panels are noticeably different between the two.

You guys are getting my hopes up of an impending configurator and delivery, and I don't like it! Actually, I kinda really do. I literally had a dream last night about taking delivery.

Here's a stupid question: If these are production R2's, how do they know what to build if the reservation holders haven't even been able to specify what they want?

Here's a stupid question: If these are production R2's, how do they know what to build if the reservation holders haven't even been able to specify what they want?
They've polled employees who have reservations and raised their hands to show commitment to follow through. That data, compared to parts inventory, informs them how to plan and batch production. Same will be done starting in June for non-employees, when they ask folks to configure. And beyond that, they can probably just collect/monitor data and use AI predictive modeling to help determine production plans.

They also sent out surveys last month to see what configurations people are eying as well to anticipate remands.

According to two Rivian employees I talked to driving two different R2s across CO and UT employee deliveries have not started yet. They picked up R2 fresh off the line late last week to drive back to California for testing,

According to two Rivian employees I talked to driving two different R2s across CO and UT employee deliveries have not started yet. They picked up R2 fresh off the line late last week to drive back to California for testing,
So what were these employees doing with those vehicles? I had read that factory pickup was the first option to speed up getting them into employees hands for testing.

I asked them specifically if they purchased those vehicles or if they were Rivian owned. They were Rivian owned (one was VIN 23, the other I did not look). One of the drivers said there were a bunch of people flown out to Normal to drive R2s back to California for testing and to put miles on. Both drivers had Rivian tshirts on. One was driving Onion Creek Road in Moab (photo attached) just for fun on the way back to CA. Both said employee deliveries have not started yet.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

They’re employee orders.

Update: Someone else said they asked Rivian employees and they’re still validation vehicles, not employee vehicles. 🤷‍♂️

It's so they don't have to deal with cost of transport and delivery. Leaving it to the employee-customer to take possession, drive across states and on their own time.

EPA certification is really the only big hurdle to being able to sell the vehicles, and they've done that. NHTSA lets them self-certify that they are FMVSS compliant.

It sounds, based on social media post, that at least some executives have gotten them delivered.
