I'm 6'5 and I had more than enough room in the front

I visited the Old Orchard Block Party on Saturday morning. Here are my impressions as a owner 7 ICE cars over the years and the R2 will be my first EV.
  • The indoor lighting really was not great for viewing Midnight color, but looked almost dark navy blue at certain angles. The Catalina Cove was a little better viewing because it was by the entry where a lot of outdoor light can cover. My kids loved the CC color but I wasn't into it because it seems like the color everyone will choose
  • The frunk was usable. Not sure I would use it on a regular basis. I wonder if it's insulated for storing ICE. 🤔
  • The back seats were firm and comfortable, better than expected Not sure if it will stay that way after heavy use. Can existing Rivian owners comment on seats durability? Also, seats were definitely better than my experience as passenger in a Tesla M3.
  • The back seat warmer control has a long delay. At least 1-2 delay, but nothing I would be concern about. Can someone confirm the delay?
  • A lot of room in the back seats, more than expected. The person in front seat moved seat all the way back and there was still plenty of room.
  • Around the back of the vehicle, the rear windows external control seemed unreliable or needs calibration. It took considerable amount of pressure to go up or down, and the auto all the way down or up, I could not get it to work, but some were able to. Not a concern for me.
  • Opening and closing the the doors felt solid. Seem to have a lot of seal around the doors.
  • The Halo controls were amazing, at least the feel of them. Likely my favorite control of any car I've ever owned. I didn't have a lot of time to really use it to navigate the menu. I didn't want to hog up time trying to understand menu tree. The instrument console is one the main reasons I prefer the Rivian over a Tesla.
  • As for the main console, no time to really understand the layout or how to navigate.
  • I wish I could test drive just to get a feel for the driving dynamics and road noise. I've never driven an EV.
  • I wish I could play with the sound system.
  • I wish I had more time to play with the Halo control and the console.
Just my personal impression and I look forward to purchasing the LE R2 in Half Moon Grey, I can't wait to test drive and configure.

Also, after 7 cars, I have never had a car that was perfect with most issue being with the infotainment. So I don't expect the R2 to be perfect and the issues I highlighted are not the end of the world to me.

I've been lucky enough to see five different R2 colors in person over the last couple weeks, including the three at the both Chicago locations this weekend. Here are some of my pics.

I know I'm in the minority, but so far my favorite color is white.

The white color shows the styling of the vehicle the best! Unfortunately changed from the Cloud White (original R2 touring vehicle) to Glacier White, which is not as nice in my opinion. The San Francisco Bay Area does not need another flat white vehicle with a black interior on the road!

So to have some fun with a unique Rivian color. we will probably choose Catalina Cove. The color in some pictures is good, and in others not compelling. Hopefully we can get a good viewing (sunlight) in a few weeks.

I really like Catalina Cove...on the R3 though, not as much on the R2. I do wish Rivian would've offered something in a deep red, a burnt orange, or a dark yellow, but I'm about the millionth person to make that statement. :)

If Rivian monitors the forums, it is worth to keep saying it. I also mention it to the Rivian employees when I see them. I was really hoping for a burnt orange for the R2. That would have looked so good.

You hear us, Rivian! Give us the warm colors! The people crave the reds, oranges and yellows.

I was in old orchard as well. Not much of a block party compared to Denver. More of just showing the cars. Maybe I arrived too late.

I was very impressed the scroll wheels on the steering wheel.
It is just the right size vehicle.
The horn is a little bit better than the R1 but still pathetic.
The exterior button to open the rear glass is just as finicky as the charge port door on the R1.

For those who have seen one in person, how are we feeling about all the plastic parts in the interior? Some of it comes across as very cheap looking in videos, like easily scuffed and thin/not solid looking. The "tissue box" holder for example in the front storage are.

Can you elaborate any further re: fit in front? Head vs. sunroof framing, shoulder & elbow vs. B-pillar, knees vs. dashboard, and hip point vs. other SUVs you’ve experienced?
Steering wheel: I like the shape of the wheel and was easily able to adjust it so see the driver display.

Head vs. sunroof framing:
Front Seats: Driver and passenger headroom will not be a problem. My head came nowhere near the glass or the headliner.

Rear seat: My head came close to the side of the headliner when we had 3 adults in the backseat (6'5"/dad bod, 5'7"/thin female, 5'10/dad bod" from left to right), but I don't think it will be an issue for most and a non issue with only 2 in the back.

Shoulder, elbow vs. B-pillar:
Front: Non issue, I had plenty of shoulder room and the seatbacks provided plenty of support. There was plenty of space for your arms to move around.

Rear: Also a non issue. I think the 3 of us could have easily been back there for an hour or two on a road trip.

Knees vs. dashboard:
Front: I didn't have any issues. I actually moved the seat forward an inch or so, but I did have the seat lowered all the way down. If you've driven the R1 it will feel similar.

Rear: Unfortunately I was not able to sit behind myself because people were waiting, but I was okay with someone around 6 feet in front of me. Felt roomier in the R2 than the R1S.

Hip point:
Front: It was okay, but since you are sitting so low in the seat some extendable thigh supports would be nice, but definitely not a deal killer. Honestly, that's really the only negative thing I can think of.

Rear: about the same.

As far as other SUVs:
Exterior wise, it seems very similar to the new 4Runner and CX50. At first glance I thought I was going to be disappointed, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how roomy it was, and offered a lot more space inside than the Mazda or Toyota.

I hope this helps!

My brother and I went to the Old Orchard event on Saturday morning. There was a decent sized crowd there but well-behaved. My brother is interested in R2, but wanted to see the scale compared to R1. I have an early R2 reservation but, unfortunately, will probably drop it as I need a pickup for a few more years. I asked two reps about transferring reservation. One said “well, maybe “. The other said that a co-ownwership is possible but it sounded kinda “messy”.
Both of us liked the scale of the R2. Interior is really nice. They may have hit the sweet spot with this one and probably sell a few dozen or more.
you would have to buy the R2 in your name, then sell it to whomever wants it. Otherwise, In respect to those who do want to buy and own while waiting in line to do so, I would just give up the reservation spot if you don’t want the R2.

You can’t transfer a reservation.. if your BROTHER wanted it, or family member you could always both buy it, both names on title and then drop your name.. but I wouldn’t do that with a third party, and a purchase and resale is just that. Most don’t want that as in most states it applies another round of SALES tax to the transaction.

If it became known that Rivian permitted this I'm sure it would be all of 10 seconds before an R2Bay reservation transfer auction website sprang up allowing the many thousands who will not be following through on their reservation to charge as much as the traffic will bear. As someone way further down the queue with a very serious reservation I'd be royally p1ssed. Rivian would be nuts to allow this to happen.
