I am not a software engineer and don't pretend to be one usually but I have struggled to understand why so many features were coming in a later software update. I get the Covid related delays on some issues but I would think the software development could have gotten a lot further while working...
I would not count RJ and Claire taking delivery days before the earning call and months before any other delivery as news on the R1S. I highly doubt the vehicles they received were of a quality to sell to a customer.
The bad communication in general and complete silence on the R1S since RJ's instagram post from March 2021 really took away some of the excitement for Rivian. Then the pricing fiasco of last week nearly wiped it away entirely.
At a minimum, I am someone who has gone from waiting on a Rivian to...
Every company whether in an IPO or during Quarterly and Annual disclosures makes some sort of generic market (and customer and price) risk disclosures. If this is all a company had to do to avoid securities fraud charges, regardless of what other information the company knew and did not...
I have been very nervous about this for at least 6 weeks. If they announce R1S is delayed 6 months or more you’ll be able to get RIVN stock for $20 I bet.
Arguably, it was "futile" in relation to stopping the negative impact on the stock price, which has generally continued to fall. The lawsuit does not care that us, as consumers, are happy they walked back the price cut.
I did not realize this. I'll probably keep the 3d row down 90% of the time anyways but the fact this is manual is a real miss. My wife's Palisade has everything push-button, I don't see how a 75k, yet alone, 90k vehicle is manual.
This lawsuit was an obvious outcome of the price increase and stock price fall.
If Rivian's legal team did not warn management they were absolutely going to face a lawsuit like this after announcing the price increase then they need to seriously reconsider the advice they are getting.
As a pre-order holder, I am pleased by the reversal and may move forward with the purchase now. For two days, I was firmly in the keep the reservation until the last minute with the expectation I'd cancel and get something else.
As an investor, I am 110% in the camp that the Board should remove...
Others have hinted at it, but as part of rebuilding my trust, a head needs to roll for this. Someone advocated for and pushed the approach of immediate price increases. RJ signed off but he isn't going anywhere so he needs to kick someone else to the curb if he wants to show he's really learned...
I am very happy Rivian made a big mistake right but I still am more concerned about the future. This makes me nervous if Rivian will use subscription service to slowly pull back features unless you sign up and since that will be a slow drip, there will not be an uproar that makes them change...
They have LOTS of work to do but clearly the market reaction and number of cancellations drove them to making the right decision.
I was holding my reservation for a bit because I thought this might happen based on initial reactions but glad to see they will reinstate cancellations for anyone...
You are both correct and 100% wrong at the same time.
Reservation holders cannot sue for breach of contract based on the price increase.
The SEC can investigate and the shareholders can sue and that agreement isn't worth the paper it is printed on to prevent that or protect the company. (I...
Assuming the poll is accurate, I do wonder if the cancellation rate of forum members is actually higher than reservation holders as a whole. This group represents those most excited about the car but it also means we are the most invested - in many cases for years - so this may hurt this group a...
Just checked and the 2021 PHEV Range Rover and Range Rover Sport qualified for a ~$6,200 tax credit so the updated vehicles coming later this year or next should get the credit as well. Makes me think going with a PHEV that will do 90% of my needs electric only is going to make sense at the same...
https://www.motortrend.com/news/rivian-r1t-r1s-two-motor-standard-battery-pack-details/
Motortrend article says the two motor version will be based on Rivian designed motors - which may be why they won’t start until 2024 with those. The design and testing may not be ready.
Also talk of an R1X...
I hope analysts ask how many cancellations have been requested between today and the earnings call next week.
(Also, this came out almost exactly as MLB cancelled opening day not to mention the many for more important issues in the world than Rivian and baseball).
I think I’ll wait on the 2023/24 redesigned Range Rover Sport PHEV.
Should get about 45 miles of electric only range so that’ll cover 90% of my driving plus I can take it on trips without stopping at chargers.
I think you are onto something. I have always thought the van part of the website really is where the big value is of current products. Producing 3 vehicles as a new company is hard and Bezos wants his vans. I think this company ends up doing EV vans only, RJ is out, and Rivian is a subsidiary...
