Liability, perceived or otherwise, comes to mind, but I also have no horse in the race. I'm just relaying the rumor in case it could affect the long-term viability of the implementation on Rivians.
So, the way I'm hearing it is that Rivian is aware of the general format of the signals that Comma AI is using, whether through unique identifiers or general behavior (I'm not a programmer by trade, nor do I have intimate knowledge of CANbus protocol). But by using that information, there is a...
Getting close to final product. I'm going to add an additional cig lighter that goes under the storage deck but ties into the existing 12v socket. Going to fuse it at 15amps just to be cautious (again, 200+watts @ 13.5v). Confirmed that the 12v shuts off after 5-10 min of leaving the car locked...
I'm tapping the rear door, you may be referring to the front door harness. In my ear dyno, the rear seemed slightly louder. Being physically closer to the rear was nice as well so less wire to run.
Update Time!
TLDR; tapped driver's side rear door for signal, 12v cig outlet is good enough for power, going to throw everything into a sealed custom box with the subwoofer manuals recommend size of .75 cubic feet. (19x12x7 roughly, but I'm going to contour it to the storage well)
Aight kids...
I would call this a win for Rivian because the choices for last mile EV delivery are slimming down.

Home Assistant is pretty well known in the Smart Home community. It's open source, continually developed/updated, and pretty much works with every damn smart thing you throw at it. In this particular case, if you were running a home automation system based on Home Assistant and that system...
Probably not a solution for everyone, but Home Assistant with the Rivian integration you can trigger your garage door when vehicle location toggles between home/away. Very reliable and no user input needed after initial setup.
Honestly, this is kinda a sweet spot to be in right now. CCS has pretty much proliferated everywhere a charger is going to be, so we benefit by default, not having to worry about connector types. And then for the most reliable/expansive charging network, we have an adapter that can be used with...
Great example on Fisker. I took a gamble on Tesla in 2013, it paid off. They succeeded and with minimal maintance, the car worked well enought to get me through to an R1. You did the same, took the same gamble. And while the company didn't succeed, I hope the car will get you to R2.
