I will say Rivians sure do attract a different crowd then the typical EV does. Lesson learned there.
It's not 90 seconds. Take a 2000 mile+ road trip and you're looking at a half hour saved staring at the SoC. Then there's all that stuff about making the world a better place with more...
Your point? We know going slower is more efficient. And going front wheel drive would add efficiency to all the above (proven with my own truck and on various youtube vids).
I just think anyone who is making claims about how it will affect the driving characteristics of their car while idling along on the highway is utterly full of shit. I am incredibly passionate about cars, have raced a ton, tons of hpde days, drag racing, etc and owned somewhere around 70 cars...
Most people have absolutely no clue what their handling characteristics are. They push a button to start it and drive it with the funny circle shaped thing in front of them with very little clue as to what their drive train is or how it will act anywhere near the limit.
My guess is most of these folks are new to electric vehicles and haven't suffered through a winter of 50% range or bad headwind / rain storm leading to a 25% loss. Anything that can be done to make an EV more efficient should be done in my book.
Has anyone tried removing slats from the rear at the tailgate yet? I think this might be the best solution to being able to open or close it until they come up with a fix. I took a quick look and there seems to be a plastic cap at the tailgate end of the rails that keeps the slats in that is...
Look at that, with my moronic brain and your big one we've come together to find a good solution. It's almost like something like that was what I brought this up for in the first place.
A) most of the roads are not in the mountains of Colorado, B) I have, actually, and I wouldn't touch 70mph on the vail pass with snow on the ground, and C) I'd love to know what I don't know about. But I do know you don't use about 95% of available grip in either direction in typical highway...
Clearly I'm missing something here. I stomp it to get on the highway once a month or so, most of the time I'll use 50-75% throttle to get up to speed at a still silly rate. Do you just drive up and down the highway stomping it and slamming on the brake? Is that how everyone on the rivian...
I drive everything I own like a neutered poodle on the highway. Looks like I'm in the minority here but I don't see a whole lot of benefit to having all motors readily accessible for the one time a month I stomp it on the highway at the cost of 50 less miles per charge. The implementation...
Yep, not a ton of dough but there is efficiency to be gained in cost, time, and effective range. Seems silly to just have it suck juice because it can with no benefit.
I'd take the choice for sure. But the impact is pretty big, especially with what they can claim is their EPA range. Lets be cheap and call it a 15% increase in range. In MA electricity is ~28 cents a kw delivered. If I drive 10k miles that's 5k KWh in all purpose mode, $1400. Puts me at...
