I have a 23 R1t and will be using the 12v plug in the gear tunnel to power a refrigerator. Truck will be in sleep mode and locked most of the time. Will the 12v battery automaticlly be topped off when needed by the main battery pack. I could also use the 110 outlet but that would not be as efficient. @nd question, if you are not using the 110 plugs but they are turned on and ready to use does that drain the battery just by having then activated?

I believe the 12v is off when the vehicle is sleeping so you'll need to enable the outlets in the infotainment for 12v to stay on.

When vehicle is on, the 12v is on and will keep charged by the high voltage battery.

when the outlets are enabled will this create much phantom drain?

Luke, use the electricity! It's why we bought vehicles with 0.000135 gigawatts.

We were just at the beach and used 12v fridge during the day. This can give you a bit of an idea about the phantom drain over 6 our so hours when the outlets are left on.

If I were to tap directly into the 12v battery and otherwise had the truck in sleep mode would the 12v battery be replenished when needed by the main battery or would it drain it? (when using the 12v fridge)

This is an issue I will be facing, as well. I will be powering a Dometic frig that has proven to be pretty undemanding of power. On my FJ, I am currently running it via a 12v outlet. It will run up to several days on my cars deep cycle battery and still be able to start the car. Should the battery get too low (this level can be set manually), the frig will shut down, assuring enough juice to start the car. I am concerned how this will work out on long, remote camping trips with the Rivian. Large amounts of drain could become a real issue. Barring any other solution, I like the idea of wiring a 12v lead directly to the battery, so the rest of the truck can be shut down. I’m wondering if that is doable.

It would still likely result in higher than usual phantom drain, the truck would have to wake up and use the dc to dc converter to recharge the 12v battery. However, you would have to investigate if the truck actually wakes up if the battery level drops. You will drain the 12v battery completely if not.

When I had the fridge plugged in, I noticed that the 12v circuit dropped from 13.5 V to about 12.3V when the fridge was running, and that’s with the 12V circuit being constantly “topped up”.

I wonder if you could get smaller battery bank to power the fridge and allow the truck to sleep. Then you would recharge the battery when the truck is in use.

Turning on the 120V outlets will consume tons of power even with nothing plugged into them. In camp mode there's now an option to "Stay On", which will leave the USB and 12V outlets powered without turning on the 120V inverter. If the vehicle goes to sleep everything turns off, including the 12V outlets. Another alternative would be using a battery pack to power the fridge and hook the battery pack up to the 12V so that it charges when the truck is awake. My Iceco Go20 uses about 50W while it's running, so even a 250 Wh battery can give you 4-8 hours buffer, depending on how hot it is outside. I will say I don't recommend the fridge being in the frunk...it's not ventilated and I managed to overheat things. I wound up putting the rear passenger seat up and stored the fridge on top of the subwoofer and then ran a 12V cable into the gear tunnel via the pass through.

Placing the frig in the rear seat area atop the sub woofer and running the cable to the gear tunnel is exactly what I intend to do. Damn. I hate to have to go back to an ice chest, just to conserve range ☹ Losing 30 miles of range/day won’t cut it. Kinda seems odd to have all that electrical resource and not be able to use it. I also agree that the frunk is no place for a fridge.

it seems when I put the truck in sleep mode the 12v outlet in the tunnel stays on so will that drain the 12v battery or will it automatically be replenished, or I could get a 300 volt power station and every day turn truck on for a few hours to charge the power station back up via the 120 outlets
