We just ordered a set of Recon Grapplers in stock 275/65/20 fitment to replace our stock Pirellis after 22,000 miles. We were pretty close to the wear bars, but ultimately, a blowout yesterday at 65 mph on the HOV with my two young boys prompted an early exit from the Pirellis. Nothing appeared unusual driving yesterday, but I heard a sound like we hit something then some subtle steering differences and all of a sudden "POP!" I saw the tire casing rolling down the HOV while I was slowing down and trying to move over to the side of the lane. Pretty scary when you've got two of your kids in the car stopped and people are blasting by at 70+ mph. Thank goodness everyone is safe and Discount Tire took care of swapping to my full size spare and switching over the TPMS sensor that my wife brought us because a 34" spare doesn't fit nicely anywhere on the car.

All this to say that I'm really looking forward to the Nittos. I've heard great things about them, but on my 100 series land cruiser, I've always run K02s or Falken Wildpeak AT3s. A P-metric Recon Grappler seemed like the best option for what we use the R1S for. Time will tell. Due to my vanity, I just can't get over the psychological hurdle of how non-AT/MTs look on the 20s.

Glad you and the family are safe and I can relate with two young boys. Looking forward to your experience with the Nitto Recon Grapplers.

Wow! Glad to hear everyone is o.k.! A tire failure at freeway speeds is not a pleasant thing to deal with.
