You need an EV specific adapter from whatever 30amp 120v plug you have to the 14-50 the Rivian portable comes with. After that it’s as simple as setting the amps on the charging screen to 24amps and plugging in.

These are the adapters I used, a TT-30 (RV plug) to 14-50 for campgrounds and a L5-30 to TT-30 for my generator which requires both adapters to be used for the truck.

I presume you're talking about plugging into a TT-30 receptacle at campgrounds? If so, you can use an adapter like this one and then turn down the amps in the truck to 24.

You don't need to buy that specific adapter, but you do need one that's wired for charging an EV and not for powering an RV.

If you want to make your own, it’s just a matter of connecting the neutral of the 120 to the hot of the EVSE pin. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, don’t make your own. :D

Good advice here already. I would add that if you’re going to be doing this frequently it’s better to get a nice mobile charger that has multiple adapters. The ones with adapters will also auto limit max amperage for you too. I have some options in my store that I’ve used.

in RV parks make sure you have some ideal what the voltage is before plugging in the EV. If the voltage is dipping don’t try to pull the full amount. Could cause a brown out and make neighbors very unhappy with you.

us personally we like sites wil 20/30/50 hookups. Even if you have a 50 amp service on your travel trailer you can plug it into a 30 …just won’t be able to run more than one AC unit at a given time.

Does anyone know of a method for using the Rivian portable charger with 30 AMP 120 V power? Thanks.
Is this for a Tt-30 camp site?

The safest way is to get a 1st Gen Tesla mobile charger and slap a 14-30 adapter on it. Then get a 14-30 to tt-30 adapter. This way, the mobile charger will auto limit the charge speed to 24 amps. Most EVs in general don't care about the volts, only the amps.

An alternative is to get a tt-30 to 14-50 adapter for your Rivian mobile charger and then manually set the amps to 24, from the default 32. If you don't do this, you'll trip the breaker at best, melt the wiring of your campsite at worse.

Actually, the easier method is to use a Gen 2 (current) Tesla mobile charger, and this pigtail from EVSE Adapters.com

https://evseadapters.com/products/tt-30-adapter-for-tesla-model-s-x-3-gen-2

It's how I charge my R1T when camping at sites that don't have 50-amp outlets.

Does that have a diode that tells the mobile charger to limit amps?
It does! Although when I plug mine into the truck, the amps shown on the charging menu on the center screen is high by 2 amps - no matter if I'm using this third-party TT30 pigtail, or an official Tesla 14-50 (or any of the others in my collection) I just adjust it down. It might be the Tesla to J1772 adapter I'm using....
