Never taken a road trip in an EV, and am wondering of the feasibility of doing 800 miles in one day. I have some fast chargers scouted out along the route with what appears to be some reliability.

Is it reasonable to assume one could make it 800 miles in a day, assuming charging goes as planned, or is this a pipe dream?

I'm pretty sure, Kyle Conner at Out of Spec has done it. It all depends on how many hours you want to drive and be awake?

I think you will get a different answer depending on who you ask. I would think it's doable depending on your endurance.

My estimate: 13 hours of driving, 4 charging stops at ~30 min/ea. That is assuming you can average 60 mph, can be fully charged on departure and have charging at your destination.

Edit: Also assuming availability of 150kW or higher chargers.

We did 880 miles in one day in our E-tron. It's possible.

We had three kids and two dogs, so I would never do that again.

Drove from MD to FL in a day, took about 13 hrs in a Tesla Model Y, 5 stops, averaged about 15 min/stop. Use A Better Route Planner to game it out ahead of time.
Edit: 770 miles

A few weeks ago we traveled from South Bend, IN to Winston-Salem, NC, 670 miles in about 12 1/2 - 13 hours. No issues with the EA stations in Northern, OH, Columbus, OH, or Wytheville, VA. One 62.5KWh in Gallopolis, OH which took a little longer, but it was a nice stop. No reason to think we couldn't have traveled 2 more hours if we switched off driving a little bit. I did feel it a bit the next day.

Plug what you're thinking of into abetterrouteplanner.com. A similar drive on the West Coast would be Seattle to San Francisco (808 road miles). 13h 40m per Google without charging, 15h 42m per ABRP with charging.

Personally, even without the charging, that's a long day on the road. The charging might actually make it a little easier because you'll actually get out and stretch a few more times than you might otherwise be tempted to.

Put the route into ABRP and see what it looks like. Certainly would be doable, the number of stops depends on how far apart they are from each other. If you can get a little over 200 miles on a leg and and started close to 100% you could get there in 3 charge stops. Might be a faster trip though charging to 70% and stopping more frequently as the charge rate is faster up to 70%.

If it is mostly highway I would think it would very be doable. An example with ABRP Orange County, CA to Grand Junction, CO shows 786 miles 13:56 total time - 11.36 driving and 5 charging stops for 2:29

Good advice people, thank you. I’ll check out ABRP. We’d be splitting the drive amongst 2 people, so 15 hours is not a deal breaker.

I do the 750 miles from Denver to Vegas all the time in my Taycan, and I have done Scottsdale to Denver a couple of times in a single day. Those kinds of distances in an EV make for a long day, but if you get decent charging speeds it is very doable.

Since you are splitting the driving duties, it should be a cake walk as long as you get decent charging speeds. Are you guys hauling anything, or carrying bikes? That will affect range, so you will need to charge longer. Something to consider.

Definitely run it through ABRP and try to charge between 20-70% SoC and it sounds really doable. My wife's Volvo XC40 Recharge 'only' has a range of 220 and and 800 mile day is doable so long as we keep it the SoC in the middle of the graph.
