what makes it useless? I used it on a 2200 mile road trip and it worked just fine.
The question how do you know? The way to see if it is working good or not, check alternatives, You will be surprised to see what Rivian NAV will suggest and what Google Maps will do. Google will usually have a better route. I also thought it is working fine, until I realized I am spending too much time driving than I need.

They need to stop spending time and money for nothing - just integrate Car Play / Android Auto and mark it done.
agree 100%! but their ego's are to big and they believe they can write a better software program which we know has not happened. If they added both of those it would make all our lives sooooo much easier.

I have documented to Rivian and sent in photos. It wants to take my 17 minutes out of my way on back roads to get home. Even when I'm on the parkway (2 lanes in each direction) leading out to my planned community when I'm 2 miles from my house it's trying to get me to turn around and go back the other way. They know about this and have done NOTHING to correct it. I don't trust the Nav system that can't even take me the fastest and best route to get to my house. Why would I trust it on an road trip? The Tesla Nav system was not perfect but I did trust it's navigation routing.
Ok so there is one example specific to you and you won't trust the NAV for the entire country? Seems a bit extreme but I can see how that could be annoying. Is your planned community new? Might be an issue with data on the map.

it's been developed since 2015 so no it's not new.

I do compare it to Google maps and it's the same. At least for the trips I take. I guess I use the nav a bit different than others, I'll just put in my next destination like a charger or food or a hotel and not the final destination and try to have way points.

I can test any navigation system and find some routes that are not optimal.

Nothing is going to be 100% just seems you found a route you use a lot that has an issue. I used it from IL, to MA, to FL, back to CA including lots of obscure backroads over 5100 miles with no issues.

Was using some of the downtime while charging to verify the routes with Google and. Apple Maps during the trip and all were very similar.

Just not going to happen in the near/mid term.

I understand that everyone uses it differently but wouldn't it be nice to have one that we could trust without having to check others to verify or make corrections to? I mean it is 2023, not the early 2000's. For me I'll stick with Waze and figure out the charging spots for my trips before I leave.

I use ABRP pretty constantly and find it excellent for what it is. They're plugging a whole in the app by starting to collect charger data from users.

The Plugshare rating system on the other hand is an absolute dumpster fire, and about as close to useless as you can get. At least users leave comments to cut through their rating BS. Don't forget, in Plugshare's mind, a 35 stall station made of 350kw chargers that has only 1 charger working that provides a whopping 37kw would be considered a successful session and worth of a "10" rating.

The rating system on plugshare may be useless, but I've never tried to use it, I go straight to the chargers I need to use and read the comments, it takes just a few seconds to get a firm grasp on whether the comments are valid or not, and how recent they are, so it's very very good at giving you data regarding whether you can rely on any specific charging station or not.

For me again, going through Oklahoma on my long drive means I have to use Francis charging as they dominate mid-east Oklahoma they're literally the only choice, and they are horrible about repairing non-functioning or under functioning chargers, and without plug share I would be lost, thankfully 100% of the trips I've taken plugshare has helped me plan my route to use only the working chargers, and nearly every trip it's different again because Francis is completely unreliable I often have to change which charger I use.

I'm glad some people this is working really well for but for the two trips I used it for the route it picked was very risky and required stopping at level 2 chargers to make sure I had enough to make it to level 3 chargers. Then the level 3 charger was not working at 100% according to plugshare and confirmed when I arrived there (after taking a different route).

Here is the trip I planned out in advance with plugshare and google. The stops are for bathroom breaks. The second Walmart was only charging at 35 instead of 350 both going down and back.
Rivian R1T R1S ABRP 4.5.0. gets a major upgrade 1691601152960

Here is what the Nav system calculated (stops added to force route ~172 miles in first part)
Rivian R1T R1S ABRP 4.5.0. gets a major upgrade 1691601322614

This route while 10 miles shorter had zero chargers nearby. Yes the car could have made it but if anything happened and it added distance there were no chargers really on those roads requiring 20+ miles of driving to get to one.

I'm glad others haven't had issues but I'm not impressed with the navigation and it needs major improvements to catch up.

I am running the Waze as well, but primarily for police traps. Google Maps does show you EV chargers on the route as well as their ratings. So it helps a bit.
Google owns Waze so why can’t they port ev info over?

The relationship between Waze and Google is very strange, they do share some information, but not the other.

I'm int he middle of a trip to OBX right now, and your experience is close to mine. ABRP routing was really bizarre, ending in a route that required a 3 minute EA charge to make it how with 12% more charge that programmed for. It *never* thought I could make it more than around 215 miles, which is certainly not the case when leaving with 100% and the consumption set to default.

The onboard NAV consistently recalculated my trip unless I hopped from charger to charger. Someone on here called it 1990's MapQuest, and I agree.

The recalculating on my first trip worried me as I check the charger in advance then it changes to a different one that I know nothing about but I also can't click the map to get information. I feel it works in some areas and in others it doesn't work at all. In the end I have the Nav input the charger then the next charger instead of one trip to my destination with it filling in the blanks.
