Another 12v battery replacement (again)?

I just got a notification that I need to replace my 12v battery….AGAIN. I’ve only got 30k miles on my R1S and this is the second 12v battery alert. Is this normal? Is this what I can expect, going forward? I love the SUV, but this seems excessively unreliable.

Definitely NOT normal, unless there are some extreme situations that applies to your use-case (i.e.: consistently parking it outside your home-area with GearGuard Enabled for Days and days at a time without L2 charging, or something like that).

We received our R1S in August '23 and have about 51K on it and they proactively replaced the 12V in January 25 and then it was replaced again this year. The SC told me that it comes with a 2-year warranty so that helps...

Definitely NOT normal, unless there are some extreme situations that applies to your use-case (i.e.: consistently parking it outside your home-area with GearGuard Enabled for Days and days at a time without L2 charging, or something like that).

Our R1S lives in our garage and I charge it to 85% unless we’re doing a road trip. Then and only then, do I charge to 100%. I’ll talk more with the service techs about this tomorrow (Feb25). Not sure how forthcoming they’ll be or can be.

I have 15,000 miles and have replaced my 12v battery twice. The second time it died it did not give me a light warning. Just died. I always have my truck plugged into the charger. The new battery does not come with a warranty.

The new battery, if replaced under warranty, is covered by whatever time is left of the original warranty. If you purchase a new battery(s), they come with 2-year warranty.

If you buy the battery after 36 months of owning the car, it comes with no warranty. But, please tell me I am wrong. I would love a warranty.

Two years is pathetic. For a while in the 1970s there were several giving lifetime warranty for as long as the original purchaser owned the vehicle. Dad got at least two free batteries before the vehicle was stolen. And these had to start 400+ ci engines! There is a lost art here some place.

I talked to tech at rivian today. You are right. If I am paying for battery after the warranty ends, it has a 2 year warranty for defective. This was my second replacement.the first under warranty and now. So that under warranty battery they don't attach a 2 year warranty. Only for ones we pay out of pocket afterwards.

So, I got the 12v battery changed out at SC and after two hours, they told me that this battery just had a defective cell. They replaced it with a new one and restarted the clock on my two year battle warranty.

Normal? No. If it was, there'd be multiple people saying theirs failed every single day. ICE or EV, it's a 12V AGM lead-acid battery. They fail all the time. Visit any auto parts store on any given day, there'd be customers there buying replacement batteries. And those Interstate Battery trucks aren't driving around the city all day just for fun.

The only thing that's normal is the echo chamber that is the internet.
