Hello,
I haven’t see a thread on Level 2 charging compatibility yet, and was wondering if others are experiencing the same issues I do. I’ve tried public charging at a Level 2 charger three times now, with failed results. Whenever I’ve tried to use a public Level 2 charger, my R1T either gets stuck at “Waiting for charger” or charging with zero power delivered. Has happened on Chargepoint and Tesla brands. Level 3 public charging has not been an issue. At home, I have charged with no issue with the Rivian charger and my installed Level 2 Wallbox. But on the road my Rivian does not seem to play nice with Level 2 chargers. Anybody else? Solutions?

Some public level 2 chargers are not free. Have you tried to initiate the charge with the respective apps?

I’ve used level 2 public chargers with no issues.

There are a couple of things to remember about Tesla chargers. They can be set for use only for Teslas, that is the case at my gym, you can plug in but it will give you that message. I would check with the people at that location to see if they know.

Also if using a J3400 to J1772 adapter, I find plugging the adapter in and waiting 15 or 20 seconds before plugging into the vehicle helps.

Edit, one more point, the DCFC adapter for the Superchargers will not work on level 2, you need the adapter for AC (J1772), I think you get the waiting on charger if you try that adapter.

I have a Tesla adapter for Level 2. Besides, one public charger was at a hotel, which was free. Had both Tesla and another charger, I believe Chargepoint. Neither worked. Also charged at public free charger in downtown Cocoa FL. This one was Chargepoint and I even called the 888 number to get it started, but then it delivered zero energy. Chargepoint knew I was hooked in because I got an email 19 minutes in from them saying my vehicle was not drawing any energy.

I had this issue once while in Zion. Was able to charge with the Rivian mobile charger but nothing else for about 48 hours. The problem then fixed itself and the service center found no faults.
