EA used to be my goto place on roadtrips but the queue is getting worse and worse, and I stopped going to them.
The day I have to wait for a charger is the day I never drive an ev again. That’s unreal

Yes, since the only road trips we have done are SoCal to Mammoth and Tahoe. We’ve used the RANs in Inyokern, Olancha, Bishop and Lee Vining along the 395.

I couldn’t care less about the price difference. I’m not giving Elon a cent if I don’t have to.

Don't visit California. Anywhere from San Francisco to San Diego.

You’ve never had to wait for a gas pump?
It's funny, I've seen people wait in line at Costco for gas longer than it takes me to charge up from empty to 80%. Often with engine idling, wasting even more fuel - while waiting in line for fuel.

Not that I can recall, I've driven an ev for so long. Now I definitely have pulled in to a gas station in the past and the pumps weren't working, but refueling takes no time. I refuse to wait for a charger just to wait longer to charge.

I see the same thing, I would never do that

Here in New England, the RAN stations are usually located by an outdoor gear shop, a grocery store, or a pub. When it’s rainy or cold, it’s nice to plug in and dash inside, have a drink, buy groceries for a camping trip, or buy a new fishing rod.

Personally, I find location to be the most importantly factor. My seven year old, my Greek Island wife, and my BEP all appreciate a relaxed pace and a clean toilet.

I prefer RAN over just about every other service. It’s reliable and it’s usual in a good spot.

I don't use RAN unless I absolutely have to. Tesla superchargers are cheaper ($0.36) on the east coast versus $0.44 on RAN. in addition, they are located in malls parking lot without restrooms facilities overnight. I like to travel at night to avoid heavy traffic. My best travel stop are Bu-cee's while traveling from Raleigh, NC to Fort Lauderdale, FL every other month.

Hell yeah. I'm not giving EM a single penny.
I feel like that, but there are some times I’m just cutting off my nose to spite my face not going to Tesla. I supercharger so infrequently the $$$ amount is minimal, and the $$$ difference very small. But if all possible I’m with you.

I am on a road trip from S.F. Bay Area, to L.A. to Phoenix, and back to L.A. My first two charges were at a RAN at $0.6x/KW; and then I only used Tesla charging stations at $o.5x the rest of the way due to convenient and price differences.

I'm just wondering if the Rivian owners are still using RAN for roadtrips because the most I have seen on this trip was one R1 at each RAN.
I think that one reason for the higher prices is that, IIRC, Rivian has committed to purchasing electricity from renewable sources to offset all the electricity they sell at RANs. This may, currently, be costing them a bit more money than charging providers who haven't made that commitment. Hopefully the costs will come down.

90% of my charging is at home. On road trips I prioritize Tesla and Rivian because they are the most reliable and are plug and charge. I'm not doing enough road trips to make the membership with Tesla or EA worthwhile now, so I just pay the premium for the convenience and reliability when on a road trip.

You do realize a lot of good hard working people are being hurt by this mentality? Elon isn’t getting any of your cents here. They would be going to those who worked hard to make this EV movement even possible. Those who maintain the charging and work to help put food on their tables. Elon doesn’t take a paycheck. He only gets paid via stock.

Rivian is dropping the ball with pricing and facilities. 63 cents at Newark Delaware? 53 cents at Newburgh and 43 cents at Baton Rouge. Terrible uncompetive prices but what makes them worse is these chargers are in the backs or rear ends of shopping centers. No place to hit a bathroom especially late at night. No garbage cans. No window squeegee. No canopy to stay dry. I was excited about the Queensbury NY location. Very nice diner there and a trailer pull thru. Then, they jacked the price twice in 6 months. I went back to using the Evolve chargers in Clifton Park at 46 cents with all the amenities that Stewart Shops provide (clean bathrooms, convenience items, garbage cans, and window wash)
