IRS site says my e-filed return is taking “longer than expected “ to process. I’m assuming this is due to filing for the EV Tax Credit & was wondering if anyone else’s has been delayed?

Mine was an amendment as I had already submitted my returns the month before.

Status on the ammendment refund is:

"Your amended return was received on March 23, 2023 and it is being processed. Please allow up to 16 weeks for processing. You may continue to check here for more information."

My federal return took about 2-3 weeks. No delays for federal, CO state sometimes is a little weird with EV credit

Filed in February and received money first week of March, less $1k because I forgot the AMT form with the EV plug install credit form. So many forms for a single thing...

Filed and had the money in the bank in less than a week. Fastest I've ever had a tax return get completed.

Getting a refund doesn't mean they will allow the credit. Like almost all deductions it is automatic (as long as all the required forms are attached) and they will later examine (aka audit) returns they want to take a closer look at.
Same principal as claiming a $7,500 donation to a charity - they will issue a refund but it may trigger a request for documentation later.

For those that take delivery in 2023, it will be more tightly controlled. Unless the dealer/manufacturer files a specific report with the IRS (by Jan 15th, 2024) with the VIN, your SSN, and a bunch of other info the credit will not be available to you. The dealer/manufacturer is required to provide you with that same report at the time of purchase. Rivian is clueless on this and is unwilling to provide the report. They agreed to do this when they applied to be (and were approved) a "qualified manufacturer" and documented the R1T and R1S as eligible for the credit. Both show as approved on the IRS site.
I'll still claim on my R1S under the "good faith" provision, but is could be. a battle to get the credit unless Rivian gets their s**t together and provides the required info
