I have often wondered if in those situations where most Rivian owners have no problems with a given update and some do could the transmission process itself (cell tower/WIFI) be corrupting the code? My cell tower reception at home is not the best but my home WiFi is very reliable so I always use it for Rivian updates. So far no problems.

Every update I received had minor issues to go along with the improvements. A good example is the six months of updates that each broke the tow mode range calculations in a new way. Fixed one thing, messed up another. To be fair, that was somewhat early on.

It’s still cool that they can make so many incremental upgrades just via software though.
I agree it’s cool they can make so many adjustments (for better or worse). And I do see people asking if “——“ is broken after an update, but I also see many saying they have never had any ill effects from updates, myself included. The worst thing I can report is the update that changed how the audio sounded. First world problems….

I guess my point is that I don’t expect anything different with Rivian’s software updates than I do with updates to my Apple devices these days, which don’t always happen without screwing with some app here or there. Even at my job where the infrastructure team are super careful about the updates they install because it’s connected to critical infrastructure, things regularly go wrong. It seems this is just how the software cycle works now, which I agree sucks if it bricks a vehicle you need to live your life…

I've noticed my map doesn't work or the scheduled charging; now automatically starts when plugged in.

i have not tried a reboot. 2022 R1T Quad.

highly highly doubt it. Most OTAs for any electronic device these days, do a validation of the update payload before applying it.

Tow range calculations have always been complete shit, so don't know what you're complaining about.

Android updates are CRC checked and encrypted. A corrupted file won't be installable

Validate payload - yes, someone screwed up the package- yes. It can be securely downloaded but doesn't mean the software engineer did a good job.

Doesn't sound like an OTA update issue, because if it was... we'd see lots of owners here complaining about the same issue.

Way back in the early days, Rivian updates killed people's air compressors, made the charge port door close so quickly it was hitting owner's hands, they erased saved seat and mirror positions, etc.. and everyone complained about those common issues as a group because they affected almost everyone.

One vehicle out of thousands experiencing an issue after an update is not a good indicator of a botched OTA. Most likely you had hardware that was on the edge of failing, now it's failed possibly because an update pushed it further then your normal usage pushes it?

Yeah, but they kept changing how they were shit. Went from automatic 50% reduction with a reasonable enroute use calculation, to an automatic 635 mile range, to some calculation that halved miles but then calculated use that made no sense, etc.

Had this exact issue a few months ago. Early 2022 R1T build. Turned out that it was the ACU (accessory compressor unit) starting to overheat and fail prematurely. And the reason it also popped up for me right after a previous update is that they put new vehicle testing/warning features in software updates that allow the truck to catch small errors earlier that way they can be serviced before causing major damage.

The reason all of the other features (lane assist, etc) don’t work is because it can’t confirm calibration will be accurate due to the (suspension issue).

They replaced my ACU checked all the suspension components and got me back on the road in less than 24 hrs from dropping off at the service center!

It's not the OTA. It's your brand-new vehicle that has a problem. Problems show up when a vehicle is new and systems start to get their first workout.

Perhaps there's a slow leak in your air suspension. Perhaps a wire connector wasn't snapped in fully and worked itself loose with vibration in the first few hundred miles. Perhaps one of your control modules has a bad chip. These are all things that could have worked at the factory then broke when the vehicle started to get some use.

Why you go straight to blaming the OTA? The OTA has been out for more than two weeks now, so if it were "botched" then don't you think many of the 100,000 existing owners would have noticed that?
I think if you look at the thread "Rivian reliability is a problem" from yesterday's most popular new topics, you will find many complaints following the recent software update. My vehicle is 16 months old with 10,000 with no serious problems til the screens went black while driving 2 days after the update....which others also had occur.

Probably the best suggestion I have seen is to reboot the software after all updates.
