OP-sorry for your troubles. Hope it gets resolved soon. I love my R1 but the 12v battery seems to be something that will go wrong at some point with most R1s. I wish Rivian would do something proactively to fix this.

Like the Retro Arcade we built, the way overpowered go cart, skate board ramp and slip n slide that empties into the swimming pool, "it's for my kids"....?

I hope the tech didn't reverse the terminal connections of the battery and end up shorting something out.

I’m extremely new on here and just absorbing all the threads and this one is definitely intriguing. For all of you that have owned these for some time, is there not a way to insert some sort of breaker or cutoff switch to the 12V batteries prior to doing maintenance on them or replacing so there is no problems with timing of the hook up of the positive terminals? Like I said I’m new so not familiar with the schematics or routing to know of possibilities so just asking. Thanks!

So are we. It's very likely a combination of factors, but it seems from anecdotal evidence that 12v failures are more often than not (~60% of the time?) accompanied by some form of hardware/software failure in the 12v charging loop.

My car was in for service. (Sept 2023 delivery) Battery started to precondition to charge for the drive home. 12v, turtle mode, awd warning came up. Left button + hazard reset and warnings are gone. I still put in a service ticket to capture the warning.

Update: Rivian was able to get me the truck back the next afternoon thankfully.

It did take me pestering the service center to get them to prioritize fixing the issue, however.

Still haven't gotten a good description of what went wrong after repeated asks.

Glad your back in business. They should give you an invoice showing what they did.

They did, but the invoice doesn't say anything about what went wrong. Just says they swapped the 12V.

You guys have scared us. Our dear Opal got the dredded "12 VOLT WARNING". Mobile service is due here to fix her next week (August 2nd). Opal has a single 12 volt battery. We are still driving Opal and keeping her plugged in when at home. So far, so good.
