Because you hate front tires? While towing the fronts are more prone to spin on accelerations as rear squats. And on deceleration weight of vehicle + trailer transfers to the fronts as the vehicle dives. More front tire wear in both instances. There is a reason it went away.

After 2+ years of ownership and 10s thousands of miles you don't need to mansplain conserve mode and tire wear. But thanks for nothing!

On my Quad with AT 20s, on a 100% charge, the truck tells me Conserve nets an 30 additional miles over AP. So on a typical 80-20% charge on a road trip, I'd typically use about 60% of the battery so essentially I'd only gain about 18 miles using Conserve (60% of 30 miles). Using my average of 2 miles/kWh, that's only saving 9kWh energy using Conserve.

When towing, in AP, the efficiency would drop down to 1-1.5 miles/kWh. Using the example above, that's only adding 9-13 miles on a typical charge using Conserve. That's a lot of towing charge cycles to be able to skip a charge stop.

My guess is Rivian removed Conserve when Towing as the its too hard on the drivetrain (front motor, driveline engage/disengage) for the efficiencies gained.

Yeah, that's what I meant when I said it's not a big deal on the margins. In other words you don't gain a lot so I agree. Still, I did 1200 miles back and forth the St Louis for the move and I think it would be worth it. Next up is 2000+ miles with the Intech and any inefficiency will add up. Rivian removed it for the reason you noted I'm sure, but there is some point/weight where the drivetrain issues are negligible. There seems to be a lot of effort (unsuccessfully) to defeat the trailer mode lately.

I agree. There should be a two-wheel conserve mode for towing loads under a safely determined weight. Also, why is conserve only front wheel drive? They should be able to develop and include technology for two-wheel rear drive, and let you select which one you wish to use.

Hey you two, put down your purses.

Since nobody has ever towed with a front wheel drive vehicle before, ever, I can see why it would be scary. OTOH I have not found the conserve mode to do anything appreciable, certainly not "eliminate a charge stop."

If you dont plug in the trailer light you can run in conserve, disclaimer Ive never done this and don't recommend it lol
I've definitely done this and will again. It's legal in my state as long as the trailer is under 15' and lets you see the brake lights around it.

It also lets you use Driver + if the lights are not plugged in but again. Ive never tried it lol.

Yeah, I'm building a way to fool the truck into letting me use D+ with a full size trailer.

I haven't had a need to actually do this, but it seemed like the last time I started with my truck in sport mode, it didn't adjust anything until I hit the "OK" button to allow the drive mode change. Worth a try maybe? Likely just means you can't use the center screen for anything.

So today I was able to use conserve while towing. (Slow highway segments with no start/stop)
Registered the trailer at 3500.
Anyone else seen this behavior?
