Call From Rivian about changing order for earlier delivery date

Did you happen to ask if they were going to guarantee the price for the Explore package next year? In this era of increased inflation, it is more than a little possible that you will end up spending nearly as much on an Explore later than you would on Adventure today.

I guess that is possible, but I would hope that Rivian has more integrity than to do anything like that. I want he Explore Package.

2 reasons I specifically want the Adventure Package... Heated and Cooled seats, meridian sound. The rest, I could care less about honestly. I didnt want the Long Range package, I wont be driving it more than 100 miles of my home I dont think.

I guess to each their own. To me, heated and cooled seats are about as useful as a screen door in a nuclear submarine. We have a music radio in our 2020 Silverado 2500. I could not tell you if it even works.

If Explore prices went up for reservation holders then it would for the Adventure trim too. The $6000 extra cost for the R1S when including sales tax is a lot. There was talk of price increases since the analysts call in December but nothing 8 weeks later, I would imagine all current reservation holders are OK. I do expect an announcement sometime soon saying prices will go up for 2024 deliveries.

If it was just me, I would only care about the cooled seats, and sound. But my wife likes to have the start of a weather front down the center console. She will literally have the heat on, and heated seats, when it's 85* out. While I'm sweating, and got the AC on. It will be nice to have the cooled seats.

Look no further than what Ford is getting for their truck and Rivian is under priced already. Best best case, Launch Edition R1T might stay the same. I couldn't imagine any scenario where Rivian would honor pricing for every current reservation.

When comparing the price, you need to factor in one less link in the food chain. You need to compare the Rivian price to the dealer cost, that is what ford would get on a sale.

I'd be extremely surprised with a price hike for current reservation holders. I 100% agree they could charge more but its not like the Rivian is bursting at the seams with customer goodwill at this point. Once they have a few months of higher volume prodcution with hundreds of deliveries a week... maybe.

I sincerely hope that you are incorrect. I can see Rivian raising prices starting now or in the near future. I do realize that Rivian can raise the estimated price as it states that in my order summary. As Rivian has already delivered vehicles at the original estimated price, I would hope that they would not go back on that price for other early supporters. I would hate to think that I would be penalized simply because I failed to select the model that Rivian chose to produce first.

I'd wager a near-term price increase is doubtful but, based on what I've witnessed from established powersports and trailer manufacturers, not totally out of the question. Price increases and logistics fees have been levied against orders based on shipment timing, rather than order date in some cases. Not a direct parallel, but similar.

Rivian's a bit of a special case given that they're a new company and still very much in growth mode. The customer goodwill argument is a good one, but the shareholder argument is an equally compelling counter. Losses for the sake of growth will only be palatable for so long.

Disclaimer: I have never had the opportunity to see a Rivian vehicle in person, or even speak with anyone from the company.

On paper and in videos, this is a compelling vehicle. However, Rivian as a company has done next to nothing to engage me as a customer. They have engendered exactly zero good will with production delays, etc.

I do not have the earliest order (8/2020), but I would feel pretty damn upset if the cost of my truck gets raised while others who ordered later but chose "the right model" (Adventure or LE) pay the original price.

Here is my pessimistic prediction: Rivian decides with no notice or communication to raise prices 5k on all models delivered from 2023 onward. In this scenario, I end up paying MORE for my Explore than LE holders paid! Oh, and also I wait an extra year for this privilege.

Why can they do this? Rivians appear to be a compelling vehicles, and at least for now they're the only game in town that fills their niche.

I do not have any special knowledge, but I would offer a few thoughts:
• Rivian's costs are rising pretty rapidly right now, as they are for every company in every country.
• They only ever promised an "estimated" cost to anyone so you do not have a contract for a particular price until you have a contract.
• When Tesla cancelled the RWD Model Y, they gave reservation holders an opportunity to buy the AWD version at the original price. Those who chose not to do so (e.g,. a relative of mine) ended up paying much more in the end.

I am late in the R1S queue, but my two cents is that current R1S and R1T pricing is way below market. If I had a chance to buy an Adventure today my bet would be that it is very likely to be a bargain versus the explore next year. Of course, I do not have that choice. I am mid next year no matter what happens!

The truck - compared with what is out there is arguably underpriced - and certainly underpriced in a 2022 market where everything is scarce and dealers can add huge mark ups.

I agree with your assessment of the situation. I, too, am surprised that Rivian has not yet raised the price of the base vehicle.
