I stand mistaken about the leasing since it is state dependent.

still don’t believe MF approaching zero and won’t until I see proof.

I had an Etron Prestige SUV before the R1T. Was a great car and few cars come close to the ride comfort and insulation you feel from the road. Hope you enjoy it.

You can get a 0.0009 MF which is ~2% APR on a no-haggle BMW iX lease deal. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find out someone got even lower on an Audi.

Sorry to hear about your hassle in getting the Rivian. I get the end-of-year pressure to get a vehicle, we're in the same with the wife choosing Rav4 Prime over the R1S (a better fit for her, would probably get R2 if it was available today). It's unfortunate the Guide left you hanging forever, they're probably overwhelmed. They should've offered you a week or two for space regardless of the reason, but especially to process hands-on trauma.

My buying experience was just as bad; guide was worthless. They lost a 37K cashiers check and finally found it the day of pickup. They need to do better. Trying to flush a bunch of cars out the door at the end of year did not help. R1S is great, but my Telluride had some nice features I miss. Like where the hell is hands free tail gate lift or the rear left and right view when you turn your directional signal on?

Telluride has been SUV of the year numerous times. It's a pretty refined product. I've always said EVs are equivalent to their gas counterparts that are $15-20K cheaper. The R1S is missing some modern luxuries or conveniences like HUD, digital rear view mirror, auto lift gate, captain's chairs, etc.

Hope you decide to get an R1 someday! The Audi is nice, but the residual value drops off a cliff after a couple of years. 2021s are available for about half of MSRP right now.

I think many of the Audi EVs drop off the cliff the second you drive off the lot. That's why you lease them and never buy them out. Audi is offering $30K+ incentives on e-tron GTs.

I test drove a few Audis this past summer. Sales rep knew nothing about EVs. Was confused at why I recorded the kms and SOC before we left, kept pointing me to the range calculator. Bottom line, EPA estimates were garbage, I drove 7 miles and it took 6% of the charge. Beautiful styling and build quality (a little slow in the acceleration department for an EV), but the range & BMS is horrible on Audis.

Bottom line, the legacy ICE automakers (GM, Ford, VAG) have a long way to go before they make a viable EV product. If all you care about is financing cost and ease of delivery, they’ve probably got an advantage because they‘ve got an established network and a large inventory of cars that aren’t selling. Personally, I wouldn’t buy anything but Tesla and Rivian right now (and fully expect Rivian’s growing pains), but I certainly can understand your frustration

Rivian is a startup and all startups have growing pains. Remember Tesla in the first 2-3 years? When does the latitude for being a startup end though? Right now the service paradigm for repairs is horrible. I picked up my R1S on Dec 2. I noticed 5 cosmetic issues so they said call for an appt. Fine. The next day I noticed 2 or 3 non important issues but then found fluid leaking from the car, the windshield wipers do not work and then the inflatable spare I ordered (and the crossbars) were not delivered with the car. 3 of these items are safety related and I cannot go off road until I get the spare and they casually gave me an appt 7 weeks later on Jan 22!!! That is unacceptable for a $30K car much less an $80K car. I keep trying to push the appt up with no luck. The car is great but that kind of service for repairs is completely unacceptable and must change for Rivian to succeed. Rivian please change your paradigm and build more service centers.

2024 Q8 e-Tron

Nice. I wanted a -55 Prestige but the range drops too much with the 21” wheels, which seems pervasive in the inventory. So I guess I’m going to settle on a sportback with 20” wheels where the range is like 290ish but I’ll have to order it.

I like the R1S a lot but I’m looking forward to the Audi feel/luxury … and an unambiguous key fob.

A test that short is really useless. You’d be far better off not wasting your time doing that an instead watch some 70/75 mph range tests.

For short drives like yours HVAC can dominate the power usage initially heating/cooling the car. This is more pronounced in true luxury cars because they can often fully heat/cool faster than mainstream cars.

You raise valid points about HVAC dominating the early power usage, especially in the summer/winter if car isn’t pre-conditioned, however I think that my point is still valid. A sales rep pointing to the estimated range when those are highly unreliable is not good. Second of all, EPA estimates and media range tests can be gamed and are highly suspect,. Case in point, the iPace initially had an estimated EPA range of over 300 miles and when I did a 80 mile real world test on that car, driving at 65 miles an hour on a slightly wet highway on a relatively mild 45 degree December day it had a real world range of about 140 miles. This was the supposed car of the year that was well-tested and had rave reviews. The published range figures were eventually revised and the car doesn’t sell.

I’m not new to EVs and have tested most. I stand by my point that legacy ICE car makers are way behind the industry leaders in terms of BMS and range.

I think that certainly applies to some legacy manufactures but certainly not all. BMW and Mercedes are legacy manufactures that are making pretty great EVs. They consistently beat EPA estimates in 3rd party freeway testing.

Audi/VW/GM/etc do seem behind but I think grouping all legacy manufactures in one bucket is not accurate.

I respect what you’re saying and I think that there are certainly some legacy makers that are farther ahead than others, but even the ones you mention have their issues and for most, efficiency is one of them. But I think that we digress. I’m certainly not a Tesla fanboy and am eagerly awaiting more good EV options. I pick up my R1S this Friday and I hope that the OP finds what he’s looking for in the ETron.
