do a vehicle reset, the arm rest should always be open during driving when you press the buttons.
I did not have time as I was running to a meeting, but I will do that when I am next in the car. I have done about 10 resets in the past couple weeks for various issues. Most regularly for the GPS spazzing out and showing me miles away from where I actually am. Still no air in the center console, which I believe is a physical issue when they put the car back together after fixing my leak. Rivian did not sell us short on this being an "adventure." ?

The center console does not lock on gen 1, but the electronic buttons stop working when the car is asleep. However, you can wake up the vehicle by sitting in the seat and then open the console even without a key even when the doors are locked. (Climb in through a window, guarantee it’ll still open, I’ve tested it.)

The buttons suck and you have to push them really hard, that’s probably all that happened. There is no lock for the center console on gen 1. If you have a gen 2 the console does lock (I think) but only after the alarm is triggered. If you’re driving and it’s not opening, you’re just not pushing the button hard enough.

Gen1 R1T here - I drive with the vehicle locked all the time and both buttons work to open the console. Not sure I would want a console that locks while the vehicle is locked and driving since that’s how I always drive. I just tested it now while parked and locked - still opens.

Is the locking console when vehicle is locked a Gen2 thing?

Confirmed on multiple Gen 1 Rivians here as well - the flaps at the top of the console never lock.

Also, might I suggest you look at an alternate, better place to storage glasses like this?

The reset did "fix" the issue. This tells me that this was a software issue, not hardware. Annoying, but at least a reset allowed access to my prized possessions.

Glad to hear it! That is maddening though - I hope it doesn't happen to you again.

One of my main complaints with newer vehicles and especially EVs. Things that used to be a simple latch are now tied into software controlled switches in ways that don’t seem to add meaningful benefit.

I keep mine in their case in the little "perfect for a glass case" cubby under the driver's seat.
Holy crap! I’ve had my R1T for 2 months and didn’t even know that was there! And there’s another under the passenger seat as well!

If we ever get valet mode, I'll be happy that the center console locks...

Ha! We've had our R1S for over a year and I still learn something in these forums every day...Clearly a lot of smart people bought Rivians.

Lots of the buttons on the Rivian are flakey and have to be pushed really hard. I think only one center console one works if I push it hard and the auto window down has to be pushed really hard as well.

Like phones/computers, software glitches happen (maybe more often then it should). Always try reset first. If that doesn't clear the bug it's most likely a hardware failure, which some have experienced and reported in the past.

Since I didn't see it mentioned, maybe try unlocking the camp speaker? Not sure if the wiring is at all interconnected, but worth a shot.

Fwiw I recommend "Stow-N-Charge" for storing things like glasses, not that that helps you now. Good luck!
