My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Is this a Magic Dock location, or did you bring your own adapter? And if the latter - which one?

You can plug and charge with magic dock. No app needed.
It is somewhat confusing though, the app implies you have to start from the app for the two-second-hold to release the magic dock. I wouldn't have known its plug and charge without being active on the forums.

For MagicDock you do need to initiate the charge from the app. All of the websites, apps, and navs that I am aware of (relating to us) distinguish between MagicDock and non-MagicDock Superchargers. FYI. You just to familiarize yourself with the lingo in the Rivian nav or your app (such as a Better Route Planner or whatever you are using) a little more.

Do you know how to show/hide certain high speed chargers in the Rivian nav? That is where you can choose to show only MagicDock or any Tesla Supercharger needing an adapter.

I suppose there is nothing wrong with using an adapter either, though.

This is false. As I did it twice this weekend and other members have confirmed.

You do not need to use any app. Plug and charge.

Do you mean to use the MagicDock you do not need to initiate it from the app? If so, I would believe you now that Rivian is officially connected behind the scenes to Tesla for billing (if you have a credit card associated with your Rivian account). However, it would not be a universal claim. If one did not have a credit card associated with their Rivian account, then they would need to initiate the MagicDock from their Tesla app (with credit card associated in their Tesla account), correct?

If you have the Rivian app correctly set up with a CC, you can initiate a MagicDock without any app.

I did it Friday and today.

You press and hold the button for 2 seconds, push in and remove the adapter, and plug it into your Rivian. It charges automatically and bills you via Rivian.

I wish there were more pull through chargers. This is certainly better than V3 though. I still maintain that pull-through charging is where things need to go.

v4 means it has MagicDock, it’s their newest charger that they designed so they could get Federal funding for future deployments. Plus it’s the model they’re selling to 3rd parties to run their own charger networks (like EG Group in UK and BP).

V4 SuperCharger in Columbia, SC functions the same way. Perfection. And great food at Lowe's grocery store in the same parking lot (sandwiches, BBQ, etc)

You mean like the Tesla behind OP who's in a pull-through and isn't towing? ??

They have V3 and V4 magic docks. Not all V4 will have a magic dock. The V4 are the ones with the longer cables on them.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

It’s probably why gas stations were designed the way they are. I think making parking spots into charging spots made sense at first due to the time it takes to charge, but pull-through is superior, especially when towing or if the charge port is in a different location.
