Powered Tonneau Cover.

This should reduce the tolerance on the half-shaft play. I guess we'll see.

I had the radio and HVAC off and drove 55 miles. About 2 miles of low speed driving and through a rutted out parking lot where I normally hear it pretty loudly. Silence.

I still have the original dampers which I believe were noise makers, so we'll see about that when I get back in it this evening.

It's promising.
Wow! Definitely keep us posted.

So to be clear: You had jounce lines replaced eliminating squeaks, tightened half shafts with new bolts/washers that may have eliminated the rattling, and still have original dampers.

Have you had the half shafts replaced?

Curious if the dampers were never part of the issue. What about the rebound "thump"?

I'll do a eyeball inspection on the entire suspension and see if anything else changed. They're pretty detailed on the work order forms, so I'm guessing the half-shafts are still original. I don't believe there is any newer version of them.

My dampers are probably original as well. I'll get a part number on those two.

It does appear the hub to knuckle bolts being under-tightened was a big part of it. They did all 4 wheels. The parking lot where I usually heard tons of chatter now sounds like a normal vehicle.

I dropped mine off for this issue on Sept 27, they recently informed me they are awaiting parts to replace a lower control arm to mitigate the clicking. ETA Oct 29.

Note, mine was actually missing a bolt as highlighted here riviantrackr.com/news/rivian-owners-report-loose-steering-knuckle-bolts/

Hey everyone,

As mentioned before, mine had the "tightening of hub to knuckle bolts" service done about a month ago, I think right around when that service bulletin came out. That made exactly zero improvement in the clunks for me. Interesting to hear it helped with noise for some of you.

After that service, a tech rode with me and heard the clunks again, and within seconds he said it should go in for damper replacement. I just got it back this week with new dampers, and partially happy to report that the car is definitely better. There is still some light clunking, especially in Firm ride setting over speed bumps, but in soft the car is much better. I think in firm setting it is still too much. Based on our thread here, my guess is that the remaining issue is the half shaft play, which may in part be controlled by ride quality setting? Again, hub knuckle didn't do anything for my car. Half shaft I guess may not get resolved unless rivian does something about its design, but I'm definitely no expert in how hard, possible, or practical that may be.

Btw, I didn't notice huge differences in warm vs cold weather, seemed similar whether 65-75 or 39 in the morning (same with my loaner over past few weeks)

Hope this helps. Happy to share more info.

So far so good here. I'd say my sound is 75% gone now. It's never going to be silent. It’s 1750+ lbs of weight on each wheel. I'm pretty content. The dampers are in the cards in the future if necessary, but I'm generally good with this now.

Had my PTC installed today as well as some suspension-related stuff. Has made a definite improvement.

I am having these two done as well and hope they will resolve most of my concerns.

I’d say mine are 75% resolved also, but they didn't change jounce lines for me even though I asked about it. Attached are my work orders, it does say jounce assembly. My improvement was after damper replacement work. Would you say the remaining ~25% is due to half shaft play? Or something else?

It feels like the half-shaft play is reduced. It's still there a tiny bit, but can that really be 100% eliminated? I could move my daughters 2012 Equinox half-shafts a bit too.

I never had the dampers replaced, so I might have one more fix left to take that 75% up to 100%.

I'm sure Rivian will learn from this on Gen3 R1Ts.

If you tell them you have a chirping and squeaky noise coming from your suspension they should replace it. I gave them the attached notice.

Looks like the performed the FSA for the jounce lines. The Jounce Subassembly is what they replace according to the documentation.

Some in/out play in the half shaft is normal. up/down play or excessive in/out play is not.

Also, these trucks make some noise normally and so I don't expect mine to be silent but the hard clunking and crunching sounds when there is a lot of up/down movement I do expect to be resolved. I still have about two weeks until my service appt though unfortunately.

If you have dampers with a different part number than this, you have dampers that Rivian deemed to be problematic.

Mine was serviced last week. I no longer hear noises

Notes from the WO:
The tech found multiple parts in the suspension to be causing a creaking noise when turning. The tech systematically replaced both front hub bearings to resolve the initial noise, and the replaced the following parts to completely eliminate the noise: RF axle, RF lower control arm, RF upper control arm, eccentric bolts and washers as well as the subframe was dropped and lubricated. The combination of all of this resolved the clicking noise.

Here are the parts replaced on mine:
