Thank you for posting! I was a long time comma user until we upgraded our Jeep. I had over 100k miles on both the C2 and C3. Count me in to fund it. I’ve missed chill driving for almost 2 years now. Let me know how I can contribute.

I wish him the best of luck, sounds like a kickstarter project opportunity honestly. Not sure if I would back as I am leasing my R1S G1. I do not know enough if this would work for a Gen 2….this also goes into the R2 line.

Here's what would happen if an accident occurred while someone was using it. Rivian has to say a third-party device was supplying the driving directions, and they would be absolved of responsibility. This device runs the vehicle outside of Rivian's software and directions. There is no difference between this and someone crashing on their own. Rivian will issue some statement saying they do not recommend using this and are not responsible for what happens and that will be all that comes of it.
Neither is Comma, it's a level 2 driver assistance system that requires the driver to be attentive and ready to intervene at all times. Same reason Tesla isn't responsible for FSD (supervised) crashes.

That's awesome, I used it for years as well in two Kias. Miss it a lot so this is very exciting. Hit him up on Discord if you want to contribute and/or buy an early harness to help with funding.

This looks super cool but I have so many questions and do not know what the method to the magic is. Could anyone give a rundown of how it works?

Car and driver did a driver assistance test with all the major manufacturers a few years ago and they added Comma AI in the test pool and that system ranked in the top 3 I believe in all of the testing.

It intercepts the factory camera systems, radar etc. and uses some of it's own, along with an interior camera to monitor driver attention. Then it sends signals to the vehicle's steering and accelerator/brake pedal via a connection to the OBDII. The entire thing runs on device using generative AI where it trains off it's own video to constantly improve. They release regular updates that are downloaded to the device OTA for free. Installation is very easy. Here's a pretty good video explaining the basics better than I can:

No it won't use the Lidar as far as I know. It uses the factory cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors, along with its own internal and external facing cameras. I'm not sure about all 5 radars but I believe it's all the inputs that the factory ADAS system gets, since it basically intercepts those signals with a Y adapter. Openpilot is more like GM Supercruise that works on any road, and less like FSD. It doesn't take turns, and not all vehicles are capable of stop sign/traffic light recognition yet. OP allows collaborative steering, which is really cool - you can steer yourself and then it will take right back over as soon as you stop, without disengaging and reengaging.

Edit: mind you, this video is the version from 4 years ago, on a lower device (Comma 2) from two generations ago, running on a now 8-year-old 2017 Honda Civic. This is what was capable all the way back in 2020.

Thanks. Are we sure that the Comma 3+ incorporates the Rivian onboard camaras and radars? I was under the impression that it relies only on the camaras on the Comma 3+ unit itself.

And I haven't had one single Waymo trip where it didn't fuck up. It's drunk at best. Not a benchmark for greatness.
I haven't had a chance to try Waymo yet but I want to. I use FSD 12.5.4.2 every day in my 2022 Model S, and for the most part it's incredible. Not perfect but very impressive.

Newer HW4 cars with FSD 13 look unbelievable - so much so that I am thinking of upgrading.

Don't get me wrong, I still regularly use them, but then, everyone says I'm kind of stupid as far as self driving and Tesla AP goes. Waymos mostly do mildly drunk things, but I did have it go the wrong way in a round-about once.

Also a homeless guy attacked mine once, and it flipped out and stopped.
