And this is why Rivian will never offer CP/AA. Instead, they choose to have their customers pay for essentially the same type of functionality.

The way I see it, the money I save from gasoline and oil changes more than makes up for the cost of Connect+. Plus, oil changes never made my ICE car better over time! That said, I'm constantly amazed at the people who go on and on about buying a $100,000 car but won't pay $15/mo for the data they use in it.
Don't forget, Rivian had originally said they were ending free data in April.Starting the “free trial” countdown before they have even deployed the update is pretty sus, as the kids say. Unless everyone receives the update today, which we all know won’t happen, then this is not actually a 60 day trial. Seems like a cheap way to treat customers.
To me, a workaround suggests some sort of back door way to avoid an issue but tethering is an option specifically provided by Rivian. They’ve updated the software to allow for WiFi connections even while moving. Previously, it would disconnect in motion. Thanks for confirming that BT audio will still work.
Re: tethering...I don't know. If it provides the exact services that Connect+ does but avoids a $15/mo payment it sure seems like a workaround to me![]()
Unless it's a server-side change and the software update itself is not what initiates the trialStarting the “free trial” countdown before they have even deployed the update is pretty sus, as the kids say. That's good to know thanks. I'm going to start by not subscribing but will keep an eye on what I'm missing as a result.Long term, however, tethering won’t provide the exact same experiences. For example, live gear guard won’t be available to those who tether because you won’t have your phone tethered to the car when you want to use it.
I'm big on that I hate subscriptions. It's the new business motto for a lot of things now days and I try to avoid it at all costs.Rivian is going to keep adding things in. I hope they don't raise the price as that happens but they probably eventually will.

The email, as I read it, indicates the 60 days starts today for everyone, and is not tied to the upgrade timing itself. Guess we’ll find out.Unless it's a server-side change and the software update itself is not what initiates the trial
I know. And it’s not some egregious offense. Just seems like a weirdly small thing to take the cheap road on.Don't forget, Rivian had originally said they were ending free data in April.
Because it’s free with more functionality in my other carsRivian is going to keep adding things in. I hope they don't raise the price as that happens but they probably eventually will.

I'm good with subscriptions that carry a continuing cost for the provider. I'm not okay with them in lieu of a single payment that doesn't have continuing costs, ala the BMW heated seats debacle.I'm big on that I hate subscriptions. It's the new business motto for a lot of things now days and I try to avoid it at all costs.
Amen. Subscriptions are evil.I'm big on that I hate subscriptions. It's the new business motto for a lot of things now days and I try to avoid it at all costs.
