Sorry, I didn't mean to go down a rabbit hole on this. My point was simply that I would pay for Connect+ if it got me autopilot and Apple CarPlay, but considering my usage and situation, the only thing I lose of personal value is the native Spotify (I don't have a tethering option on my phone plan at the moment so that is not an option).

My curiosity was was raised though on the BlueCruise comments so I did go back and review my original purchase agreement from May 2022 and I was definitely not charged for it then. And although I'm sure I would remember if I started paying a subscription at some point, I went back and searched through my records anyway and confirmed I was never charged anything for the service.

What I did find were two emails confirming purchase of BlueCruise but at $0.00. The first at the 3-year anniversary of the car purchase date this past May, and the next was just a week ago which reminded me I needed to close my Ford Pass account. So, for whatever reason, Ford included FoC BlueCruise for the first three years of the vehicle. And I believe I earned some kind of credits along the way that were used to offset those two renewals that came after the 3-year period.

My Ford chapter is behind me so it really doesn't matter, but I have to admit I feel fortunate now for never having paid for BlueCruise!

Rivian is chasing Tesla. As an R2 early reservationist that's dang steep compared to what I pay for Tesla's premium connectivity.

Had my windshield cracked on a recent road trip. Had it replaced by Tesla Luckily, no out of pocket cost and guess what they offer? A $12 a month protection plan for windshield protection plan. No out-of-pocket costs.

They offer other protection monthly plans which is somewhat smart, basically subscription options form rims to windshields to warranty.

They off

I tether to my cell, and I get the Spotify native app. Google Maps also works, but I don't get some of the premium features that I don't care about. I have Google Fi for my cell provider, so I pay for each GB of data, which is nowhere near enough to justify the cost of connect+.

Where Rivian screws me, is they'll download updates over my wifi tether and costs me 3GB+ in data. I ended up having to connect to the Rivian API, monitor the OTA downloading percent, and text me to disconnect the tether when downloading begins. I'll then use BT audio until the truck downloads the update from the house wifi. I really wish I could confirm an OTA download vs. Rivian doing it over my wifi tether
It sounds like you've made up your mind and I hate to beat a dead horse, but *all of this* (waves hands at comment above) sounds like an awful lot of work. Is it worth it, to save $15 bucks a month? Just for myself, my time is worth more than that hassle. #shrug 🤷
