Would a green “flashing light” be illegal? Maybe it doesn’t need to be Knight Rider red, but an updated green version. But with that knight rider whooshing sound too ?That would be awesome but illegal in the US as flashing red lights are reserved for emergency vehicles. I guess they could give it to us in Park but that would be less cool.
I'm with you though and have had the very same thought. My wish list for mods is doable and will add to safety. Make the rear light bar on the tailgate function as an extra brake light. I feel the brake lights are inadequate
Great point! But wouldn't have to be Red... happy to have it any legal color... and yes, the sound would be awesome to have with it.That would be awesome but illegal in the US as flashing red lights are reserved for emergency vehicles. Green is fine AFAIK. Red and blue are the two no noes. Also yes to the sound. That should be the pedestrian warning mode. Go all Knight rider green light and use the sound as the pedestrian warning sound. Peak coolness achieved.Would a green “flashing light” be illegal? Green lights on a vehicle are illegal in Colorado. Apparently they are reserved for a "command post" vehicle for emergency responders.Would a green “flashing light” be illegal? I think white/amber are the only two "safe" colors for all states for the front of a private/civilian vehicle, but the moving/strobing nature could be an issue.Great point! But wouldn't have to be Red... happy to have it any legal color... and yes, the sound would be awesome to have with it.
Heck, even if it just did it when you walked by/unlocked/locked it ... ;-)
I think the moving would be fine. Sequential turn signals are okay. It would be more or less the same thing.I think white/amber are the only two "safe" colors for all states for the front of a private/civilian vehicle, but the moving/strobing nature could be an issue.
I mean… it would be pretty funny if in off-road or track modes you had an option to turn on “Weeeeeeeeee” sounds. Hit that pedal and all you hear is a comical voice going, “Weeeeeeeeee” as you accelerate. Very niche, but something for the kids to laugh at.Green is fine AFAIK. Red and blue are the two no noes. I'm all for the kitschy stuff as long as it isn't classless toilet humor like fart mode or romance mode. Reference to a 80's show with a super advanced car fits with Rivian.
Originally I thought it was supposed to be a charging status bar that "filled up", but that apparently didn't make it into production. My Spark EV had a light on the dash that would show charging status, but it was just yellow/flashing while charging and green when complete. The changing of colors for driving lights can get them in a lot of trouble with DOT if they aren't careful, but they can obviously do it while the car is plugged in so they could do something like a "charging mod" that changes the front light to a Knight Rider look when plugged in. Or - as other manufacturers are doing - a status bar that shows progress of charge as it "fills up".
