10-4... it sounds like you have it all figured out. Your post just had a lot of drama over something that certainly seemed preventable. Hope everything works out for you.
Definitely something I could have avoided, but poor info on the portal, and absolutely incorrect instructions from customer service, are the main cause for this. Rivian told me where to send the money, and it was wrong. Rivian's solution to the problem they created was to ask me for more money. That's not good service recovery and doesn't bode well for any problems I might have in the future. Could they not have called the RFS arm of Chase and asked them to forward the check? As a customer, I tried calling RFS. They told me who to send a letter (physical letter) to about it.

Rivian has plenty of happy customers, and I hope they continue to grow. I just won't be one of their customers.

Like several people already mentioned... you picked the fight by your actions. I wouldn't trust mailing a certified check more than bank wire; and sure wouldn't trust someone just gave me an address over the phone to send my certified check; especially they couldn't see my record. If I couldn't get the address anywhere, I would have just held on the check and wait for Rivian to ask for the money, then you would know where to send it.
No check= No delivery.

As I said, I live in Alabama. I cannot hand Rivian a check where I pick up the car, even if I have the car delivered.

Why would he wire money to Fisker?
Fisker filed for Chapter 11 - liquidation of assets - today. Thus I asked a hypothetical question about Fisker. Any money sent to Fisker yesterday would be gone forever.

Well yes, but that’s an extreme example. We know Rivian won’t be gone before you would have taken delivery.

Does seem odd you wouldn’t have clear instructions where to send the check though. The instructions I was given were super easy and clear. I also had a great guide though.

The instructions given were crystal clear, but then they disappeared from the portal before I printed them/wrote them down (submitting the check image must have done that).

It's a very valid comment about why I don't risk my money via wire transfers when I don't have to. By using certified checks, I can be more certain of getting my money back.

I respect your decision. I have a little experience with wires etc and I can tell you that modern wire systems in the US are very safe. Taking everything into consideration I used that for my purchase and it was a very easy transaction. It seems like most of your issue is around the check/funding. If you have any desire to revisit this purchase, I would reach out to Rivian and have a constructive conversation and see where that goes. I love cars and have been blessed to own some fun cars and drive them on great roads. I take all of that and arrive at the conclusion that Rivian is a special car. All the best.

I didn't think it was a pissing content, but, here we are. You are welcome to send people thousands of dollars with no recourse, and no recovery. I choose not to. Imagine if you had wired your money Fisker yesterday. What recouse would you have today???

And, yes, I still MAIL my bill payments (albeit with online bill pay). I do not allow any company to have direct access to my bank account for withdrawal purposes. Again - this is due to RETAIL banking experience. Go find the articles about accidental automated overwithdrawals that wiped out people's bank accounts and took days to resolve. I choose to not live in that world.
I didn't have any issues wiring my money to Fisker in December, you want their instructions? I probably still have them.

I love these weird threads where the writer has some strange experience that's partly their doing and they state they won't be a Rivian customer.

Sounds like a mistake that would just postpone delivery date for few days… after all, most of us waited 3-5 years to get our truck so what is few more days to resolve this issue. Cancelling the purchase is extreme IMO. Good luck and hope you get what you were hoping for.

But good that he won’t be a Rivian owner and then complaining about service, Apple CarPlay or something else. No pleasing some people - good riddance.

Ordering a vehicle online takes a lot of patience in some instances. Still better than dealing with dealer shenanigans.
I've managed to navigate the Rivian purchase model but to be honest I'd rather deal with the dealer shenanigans. After the number of cars that I've purchased over the years I know how to play their game. ?

A wire is a safe way to send money. Checks are the worst. I worked on a class action settlement. A claimant took the checking and routing # to pay a credit card bill. Plaid is even safer than checks.
