Delivery Restrictions for NC

Question: I have R1S max pack ordered early 2019 and since I live in NC they will not provide delivery date since NC restricts direct to customer sales. I have seen many rivians around me and they have said to change address outside of NC which I can do, but with no service center near charlotte I have decided to cancel my order.... .OR has anyone purchased their vehicle with lower pricing and then traded it in to a new dealer for different manufacturer... I have been told other dealers wont take Rivian on trade because they cant value the trade... Any suggestions? cancel or buy outside NC and then trade to other manufacture.

If you are willing to do the hike to a SC, the S (at least for me) is worth it at the pre-March price. Just fun to drive.

Not sure it's worth the time and effort to just purchase to try to trade-in so if you have no intention of keeping the S, just cancel. The profit you MAY be able to make via a trade or to flip may not be worth your time. To each their own as each values their time differently.

Sound to me like you don't want the Rivian. If that is the case, there is no point in taking delivery. You missed the window when the value of the Rivian was above your purchase price. At this point, even taking delivery and instantly trading it you would lose money.

If you want your Rivian then ask for shop access. We live in Raleigh and took delivery in May. Also, mobile service can handle quite a lot so lack of service center in NC hasn’t been a problem for us.

I had to go to Richmond to pick up my R1S, it was easy, took the train from Raleigh and left in about 1.5 hours.

I’ve had 2 delivered to Cary…no questions from Rivian. This was before the $1000 delivery fee but they are still delivering into NC as of at least a few weeks ago (saw one on a flatbed headed into Raleigh).

Mobile tech has a presence in Raleigh that will also travel to Charlotte.

I’m in WNC and since I wanted quick possession , I went to Atlanta to take delivery. I think most of ENC goes to Richmond. I think I saved a little money too but it has been 15 months and I can’t remember now.

Don't buy to flip. At this point best case you break even and worse case you lose a few thousand. Not worth it.

I would not buy just to trade it in a few months later. It just doesn't make sense financially. Look at used prices. Plus, depending on your state, loss of the sales tax you pay for the Rivian.

I’m in Emerald Isle. Mine was delivered in June of 22, and mobile service has come to me a couple times. The most involved was replacing a headlight assembly. I’ve stopped by the Richmond SC for a couple “drive thru” items.

Thanks for all the info... I had talked to a guide earlier in the year and said I would take delivery at factory or Richmond service center... They said they noted in my account. Then I called Richmond and they said their mobile service only serves people within 4 hour radius. Unfortunately, Charlotte is 4.5 from Richmond and Atlanta. I think I saw a post about Rivian building a service center in souther virginia to accommodate charlotte but not tellng when that will happen. Agree, trying to trade sell later is just a pain so ill just keep holding on for delivery status update.
