Did Rivian do a GPS update in the last couple weeks?

About the same time as the last OTA update my GPS started taking me completely different routes to places I travel to regularly. The routes make no sense and are worse across the board. I didn't see any GPS map update in the OTA notes. Did anyone else notice this?

I never thought I would have to do this but I just bought a cell phone mount so I can use my phone for GPS. I'm 100% fine with no CarPLay but at least integrate Google Maps the way Tesla does. It's the only thing i really miss from my Tesla. Rivian already integrated Google map search in the GPS....just go all the way!

Ya I feel like this started after the last update. Other people have mentioned it as well.

It started at the update where they said they integrated ABRP stuff into it. That was like 3-4 updates ago. GPS in this truck was bad before, it's unusable now, unfortunately.

At least it knows where we are now. Before the most recent update it would locate us anywhere before an intersection at red lights, keep changing, randomly rerouting thinking we were somewhere else, etc.

Haven't noticed any difference in behavior at all.

Tesla doesn’t use Google for routing algorithms. They use their own. Google Maps is literally just the visual overlay.

I should have clarified that Rivian doesn't recognize roads that have been in place for years. Tesla did and likely because they were on Google maps? I could be wrong.

Rivian’s primary source of map data is MapBox, which for basic road info is really Open Source Maps (OSM). Tesla mostly uses… OSM… for its street data. Tesla’s system is a little more complicated because it does seem to use some Google Maps data, but people online can identify specific data errors in OSM that don’t exist in Google data and that are present in Tesla’s maps. So… Tesla‘a road data is largely identical to Rivian’s.

if there are recent problems, check MapBox and OSM to make sure there wasn’t an error introduced there at some point.

Rivian's GPS works just fine; it's their navigation that people have issues with! :)

I have a question though: Do people really use Rivian navigation (knowing that it's not updated for traffic conditions like Google Maps or Waze) to travel between locations they go to frequently? I only use navigation if I am travelling to somewhere I haven't been to before. Or if I haven't been there recently and there's a lot of development in the area that I think I won't be familiar with.

I always have to chuckle when people complain about navigation to their house. I know how to get to my home from every point on the compass once I'm within 5-100 miles. I realize that it's a bit different if you're in a large metro area. But does one really need navigation for the last few miles?

What's amazing is that there are Rivians everywhere in the Bay Area, a big Rivian office in Palo Alto, and even here the navigation is terrible. Traffic is always wrong. It's also normally displays 2x the time required for any local trips. I have a dash mount for my iPhone just so I can run a mapping software I trust... (and one with real traffic, real alerts, location sharing, sensible navigation, etc.)

I’ve given up on Rivian’s navigation. I’m just relying on Gmaps and Waze at this point. One reason I’m happy with the latest update is that I can now have useful vehicle info on the infotainment screen. The map certainly isn’t.

I agree about the navigation to your house complaints. I always cancel the route once I know where I am. I don't think I've ever used any navigation program to get me to my driveway.
