Do we have a Rivian Wave?

Prior to my delivery date (Aug '22) sightings were rare in Oregon anywhere outside of the Portland area. When the RAN opened up in at the Lincoln City Outlets that all changed. I think I have now seen nearly every color in the wild.

What's funny to me is how they respond to my FG/FE R1T. Some blink their lights, one or two have given me an wink, several have waved with their hands, several have given some sort of peace symbol. Then there are a few that are too cool to do anything except pretend you aren't there. Not sure what's up with that.

As a former Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription owner, I can happily say I have yet to get a one-finger-salute from diesel spewing martha truckers, and that was all too common when I had the XC90.

Middle finger. My friend and I were in his R1T and looking for a parking space at Home Depot... And there it was, another R1T and he was starting to back out. We waited so we could have the spot. As he finished backing up he was giving us this big stupid grin and gave us the thumbs-up and then flipped the bird as he started to drive forward. I thought it was pretty funny.

So to the guy in the forest green R1T at Home Depot off I-70 & Wadsworth, Arvada CO on Saturday 7/15... If you're on here and read this, same to you, buddy.

Seriously though, the wave concept is kinda stupid. Tesla became the thumbs up for a while, but now there are so many Teslas out there. If I gave the thumbs up to every Tesla I passed, I'd almost never put my hand on the wheel to drive. Same with Jeeps... Some places you still encounter the Jeep wave, but when you're in a place where Jeeps are more common than Corollas if you wave at another Jeep you'll just get a funny look.

Wow, that’s amazing. After having been the only Rivian in town for almost a year and a half, there were at least four here yesterday. I saw a different Limestone R1S in town.

Lately I can tell when the R1T or R1S is fairly new to the owner. They drive slow as a mofo when navigating the very tight two-lane portions of Hwy 101 that passes through the older portion of Lincoln City, OR. To add to the stress, they allow vehicles to park on either side of the road, so things get even tighter. Add impatient drivers to the mix, weaving in and out of lanes and it gets really stupid, really fast. Then add the three crosswalks in between the light-controlled intersections. Finally, add the tourist who cross on a whim, or the person who throws open their door out into traffic.

I get it, as I often have the same concerns. It's also why I have been persistent in understanding how the various riders play out on insurance.

So, I rarely get a wave or anything when going through that zone. We are all too busy trying to make it through in one piece.
