I have a performance dual motor R1T with Max pack. There is significant motor/differential whine from 0 to ~60 MPH. Peaks at approx. 35 MPH. Loudest when decelerating. Check out the following YouTube video

R1T Motor Noise

to experience the noise first hand. The bar graph shows the noise level for each 1/3 octave. The center frequency of the noise is displayed at the top and varies with vehicle speed. Any other dual motor R1T owners experiencing this level of motor noise? The head service technician at Sacramento center says this is normal. I was able to test drive a dual motor R1S and the motor whine was much quieter.
My 2 week old R1S PDM sounds like that in regen. There is a vibrational component to the sounds that is intrusive. It is somewhat annoying but I can live with it if nothing is addressed.

I mentioned in another forum how the regen is considerably more noisy than Tesla Model 3/Y and was told that was not the experience of other people so that combined with your recording means I will speak with service.

What app did you use for this?

Model Y, R1S Dual Max
Dual motor max here. Mine whines as well during slowing. Not quite as loud but definitely audible. Model Y? Completely silent. These new in house motors the culprit? Or design flaw?

Some say the Quad is just as loud,
Some say it's Dual.
From what I've heard from driving both,
I hold with those who say it's Dual.
Now if I had to opine twice,
I'd say that ours has not got worse.
The tech says, "pretty normal sound."
They'll check again
When I return.

[Borrowing the meter -- but neither the rhyming nor the poetic skill -- from Robert Frost's "Fire and Ice." Best to all!]

Yes. Please update once you get it. Not sure it would helps my case since they told me it is normal sounds
The noise is gone! Per El Segundo Service center it was a faulty FDU. They also stated that they are receiving more complaints about this specific issue. I would press them and tell them you test drove another R1S with same motors and no whining noise.

Could you post a video of the noise inside the cabin with the new FDU?

Like any ev motor they’ll have a small whine, but not like this. It would drown out the radio at its loudest.

R1T Dual Motor
My Gen1 Dual Large makes this same noise, highest around 30-40mph. I notice the noise cuts down significantly once the rear motor disengages but could just be less motors = less noise.

The motors have a long warranty. It's annoying (louder than my ICE 2022 bmw) but livable. Figure I'll take it in once they sort out the new motor with gen2+

Quality not that great, but you can see that around 23-24 mph, there is no pound whine. There is a video of the original noise posted earlier on this thread.

After new FDU.

How long did it take to replace this unit?

Seems like all centers are super busy, so total time was 9 days, 6 of which were just my car sitting in their lot. When they actually started the work, it took 2.5 days.
