They really need to stop trying to power those stations with Beef and Bean Burritos. I mean I thought the whole idea of buying an EV was to get away from gas....:giggle:

Ok side question. What is the issue between Seattle and Boise? I know the station in Huntington is a dog, always has been but Yakima, Hermiston, Island City and Boise seem to be working fine according to Plug Share. Maybe problems in Ellensburg?
Wasn't my charging trip report however I just checked plugshare.
Boise- 2 working
Island City- unclear, 2-3 down?
Space Age- 1 down
Yakima- 350s not working
Ellensburg- 2 of 4 down

Just compounds issues of more EVs on the road and summer travel equating to long wait times.

Been to the Huntington once and had no issues.

Gotcha. I certainly wouldn't let that stop me from traveling but I understand. I do admit I was nervous needing to charge in Grants Pass on July 5th and I only needed a bit of juice to make it between Crescent City and Klamath Falls RAN stations but that was more due to limited charging resources and I don't think it's fair to pin that on EA, luckily the wait wasn't long.

Now if half of the stations are down that will put some blame on EA of course but better 2 stations then no stations.... glass half full I guess.

I think I will continue to join prior to a road trip and cancelling for the other 9-11 months a year.

This will kick in right after my return trip Boston to Denver, which is great for me. Can cancel on the 15th and pick it back up for next summer, if we don’t have supercharger access by then.

FWIW, I have done 3k mikes in 3 weeks and I have found EA to be in good locations and reliable from an equipment/ability to charge standpoint. They are often busy, but I guess that says something as well. I have more complaints about the prices EVGo charges. Makes me feel like I’m back at the gas pump. The pass has more than paid off for me, I have $68 in savings in less than a month.

Haha.. I'm with you on EVGo, never actually used one. Every time I pull in and see the connection fee and high per kWh price and say ok where is there an EA charger nearby.

I find that the Rivian tends to navigate to them because they are 350kW and it thinks the EA are 150kW. I guess with the ABRP integration this will be less of a thing depending on your settings.

If you are in a hurry to charge (or have no other options), they are great. Generally pull over 212kw on them and they provide a nice charging curve until ~70% charge.

My wife charged at an EA site south of Boston today that was drastically changing kw by the minute. That would be my biggest EA complaint along with derated plugs.

Well I think connection fees are wrong, refuse to pay them. It's just not a consumer friendly business model. And if for some reason your session doesn't start correctly or aborts then you have to pay it a second time to reconnect.

Would you pay a connection fee to use a gas pump?

Yeah I was just thinking the same, lately I have been using RAN more than EA. I’ll definitely reevaluate my Pass+ after my summer road trip.
Agree. Just cancelled my Pass+ plan.

I just cancelled mine. I’m not opposed to using them in any way, I just don’t use them enough to give them money every month. If I go on a road trip, I will use whichever company has the best balance of price, amenities, and location……. And definitely looking forward to having access to superchargers when needed.

Let’s just say that my moral fibers became quite elastic when faced with sitting at a 50kw station for an hour, or getting back on the road in 15 minutes, to see my family on the 4th.

Btw, we pay a connection fee at the gas pump too, it’s called the cost built into the price to cover equipment and repair. They just don’t break it out for you. I guess this is what EVGo gets for their transparency on pricing.

I'll pay the price increase if they fix their sh$t. we need reliability with EA.

stand by my principle. Just because someone drives a more efficient EV with a smaller battery doesn’t mean they should shoulder a larger portion of the cost for equipment and repairs. Including it in the cost per kWh is more equitable in my opinion.
