Thanks for the informative read. I appreciate the historical context, but that doesn’t make it less frustrating that such inherently well suited places don’t host chargers in these very different times we live in—especially given all the incentives state and federal governments are currently putting towards a mass EV transition.

I sure wish there could be a law passed to exempt EV charging companies from setting up shop at these convenient and often pleasant spaces. Imagine charging at some of the beautiful and sparse non-commercialized rest areas that exist (rather than the dominos/subway dominated alternatives that must be of the grandfathered-in pre Eisenhower variety).

Indeed. Everyone ought to write their congress critters to try and get this changed.

Yeah was thinking the same. If this was about an EA station then 90% of replies would be that EA is so unreliable and I can't wait until we have Tesla access.. My adapter can't get here fast enough... etc etc etc

Stuff breaks, events happen and infrastructure gets overloaded. Sounds like bad timing that both happened at the same time.
While it's true that "stuff breaks", EV chargers are a special case. How many times have you pulled into a Costco gas station and found half the pumps out of order? It never happens. But that's all too common with chargers whether they are Tesla or someone else. The infrastructure for EV charging is just bad. It will get better, but right now, it's bad.

If commercial activity is forbidden at rest stops, how come all our rest stops have vending machines selling lots of overpriced stuff? That is certainly commercial activity, part of my family literally made a fortune in vending machines. Why can't we just call a charger and electric vending machine? Problem solved.
