I’m feeling so much better about my stable after reading thisI’d love to pare down, but I don’t know where to start…. I have two homes that are too far apart to regularly move vehicles, so, in both places, I “need”:
So there’s 6. Then the ‘05 land cruiser is built for camping, and lives in New Mexico so I can fly out with my son and get into the mountains quickly. We’re moving our primary home from Austin to Santa Fe, so I bought the Tacoma to keep there as an extra off-road vehicle for when friends come out from Texas or New England— it’ll be nice to have a few trucks we can take and head into the mountains for camping trips. The Rivian will be my daily, and I’ll drive it from Santa Fe to Maine and back each summer. The model s is getting sold (it used to be my daily), and the Mercedes… I bought it on a whim, and it’s super cool, and my kids like the rear facing jump seat, so we take it out every now and then.
- A fun to drive, manual transmission family car (cayenne and 535)
- A manual convertible (I love taking evening drives with the top down, it’s my therapy)
- A car for my wife to drive (Model Y, ‘21 Land Cruiser)
long story short, it’s a sickness, and I wouldn’t recommend it the amount of time, money and energy I spend between storage, maintenance, service… I average ~$3k/mo in mechanics bills alone. But I do love them, and drive them all regularly when I’m in the same state as the car… nothing ever sits for more than a few weeks at a time when I’m in town
