Just got a call from Rivian service and they said there is a fix for the front wheel knocking many of us experience at low speeds. They will
Be adding it to my ticket for early August. I’ll update when I get the truck back.

I hope that’s true. Have an appointment in September to address this. It’s happened before to me last year and at that time the issue was that some bolts were not torqued to spec.

I had my knocking fixed early on. Lubed the splines, torqued some bolts and whatnot. When the sounds reappeared, they replaced my front drive unit... twice.
I made an appointment for this in August but what I can’t understand is whether this is an unsafe condition or merely annoying.

The problem is usually a little play in the splines of the telescoping drive line(s). I do not think it is a safety issue, just annoying.

There's probably a 1/4 to 1/8th of an inch of slide between two connections. It would take about 500 years of driving to wear it out.... but the noise is a bit more than expected for a $86,000 truck.

does that mean just replacing the motors or something else?

My R1T has a noise that's rather annoying in the driver side front. My daughter drove it the other day and said "what's all that racket?". A previous work order said the noise was normal and I have heard it in several other trucks. There is a bit of pay in the half shaft on the driver side both in/out and up/down that is not present on the passenger side.

The wife's 2023 R1S would make clunking noises over certain bumps but the R1T does it pretty much all the time and it does seem to have gotten worse recently after the suspension software update in 2024.19.

Never been off road other than gravel/dirt roads.

If it was suspension though it would be there when you hit speed bumps and it's not..,I only noticed it over uneven road surfaces that causes quick oscillating in the suspension.

I have a feeling that it is normal after the parts wear in for there to be some noise but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

My money is on half shafts.

It seems like a washer or spring between the male shaft arm and the female connection would solve this for pennies.

Within the last few days/maybe-week I've noticed a distinct change in the noise coming from the footwell (and front wheel-wells on both sides when listening from outside). Prior to this there was no noticeable noise, and now a predictable clicking/ knocking every time the brakes engage or disengage (eg coming to a stop at a light, or accelerating from a stop).

Took mine in for this and they are going to replace both front dampers. Also they have a fix for the wheezy squeak over speed humps, some kind of damper oil line now with a reservoir.

The air suspension squeak/chirp is fixable? Between that and the possible half-shaft fix, that would make this 95% vehicle 99 to 100%.
