I was instructed, very specifically, not to use the wipers unless there's moisture on the screen.

In other words: don't dry wipe.

I've heeded that advice and have had zero issues.
And it rains here, in case you weren't aware. And this time of year, BUG SMEAR is an issue, so I'm frequently using the windshield washer spray (Average wiper user here) :)

Again, I'm not like...a shill for big PPF.

I sincerely have had phenomenal experience with mine. It's not perfect, for sure, but it's a huge insurance policy.

Obviously there are exceptions to everything. Life is a normal distribution (bell curve). But insofar as your experience, I believe you're the minority, otherwise, no one would be selling/installing/recommending windscreen protection. I have every confidence I'll get at least another 15 months out of my windscreen protection. And I have a high amount of confidence, as I stated earlier, it's saved my bacon on several occasions.

Or I'm lucky and it's done nothing and I have above average windscreen integrity. Impossible to know for certain.
I'm glad you are happy with it, hope I won't see you on the road when you don't use wiper blades when needed xD

Uhh... I definitely use my wiper blades. In fact, unless I re-read what I wrote wrong, I definitely described using wiper blades in my response to you.....

Literally all I said is 'don't *DRY* wipe.'

Last I'd checked, both rain and windshield washer fluid are 'wet.' Correct me if I'm wrong or you have some type of magical dry windshield wiper spray???

One windshield around 3,000 miles out of 14,500 miles driven in 12 months.

I had my R1T for a year and a half and had 0 chips or cracks. I did have 1 near miss though once and a huge rock just missed the windshield and hit the plastic trim right above it.

Has anyone else had problems with the windshield on their R1T? I've had my truck for a little more than a year, and I'm on my third windshield. I've never had to replace a windshield this much on any other vehicle I've owned.
I agree the R1T's windshield chips and cracks way too easily. I literally got a chip in the windshield after picking up my R1T in Denver and driving home in 2022. After that, I absolutely noticed that the windshield would chip from even the faintest sound of something hitting it...having repaired two more chips. After researching the cost, time and effort needed to replace the windshield. I decided to pay $500 and put a exoshield on there and my life has been much happier. With ExoShield I have heard a few more rocks hit the windshield that I know would have chipped it in the past but cannot find anything other than a slight mark...which could be just in the exoshield.

That's disappointing. I'm not sure how to drive without having anything hit the windshield. Seems like Rivian should be handing them out free.
Maybe it's time for Rivian to look into using the same kind of armor glass that Tesla is using in the Cybertruck.

I was talking to the manager at one of the service centers the other day and asked if Safelite had been approved yet. He said that there were ongoing discussions about Safelite getting the calibration software but in the meantime, he has had people get replacement glass from Safelite and then bring their Rivian in for calibration. Don't know if Safelite does better glass, but you might look into it.

New truck, not even 1000 miles and a month in, hit by a small stone lower part of the RT1 windshield, chipped and immediately cracked horizontally about 8" both sides of the impact mark. Driven on the same road for 25 years twice a day, sometimes more than that, never had a rock hit the windshield of any of my cars in all this time, bad luck?

First one was a small one on week one of ownership. Was on the way to get the rear dent PDR’d in Las vegas (happened day 2 of ownership @ trailhead). We decided not to do anything because it was small, not in visual field and knew we were doing some backpacking trips off dirt roads and a drive from Utah to Vermont in the coming months.

The second was on the drive to Vermont. A huge bang but didn’t see where the object came from. Very unusual shape with no spiderwebbing.

Going to the newly opened Montreal service center (90 minutes away vs 4 hours to go to Boston)

in a couple of weeks to get it replaced. Work order estimate is $2K US. Not sure how much insurance will pay at this point.

Yep, I wrote about this over a year ago. Now on my 3rd windshield too. Prior 4 vehicles and 25 years had 1 replaced. The Rivian windshields are crap!

Has anyone heard if the new models will be using a more damage-resistant kind of glass? That would be a huge positive, because life is short, and the less time we spend getting glass replacements, the better!
