Front suspension fail

2024 R1T, gen 1, 64,000 miles

Truck was just sitting in the drive way after running errands all morning. Get in to go pick up kids and “front suspension serviced” red light on and stuck in lowest height

Get it to the service center right away and they get back to me the driver side failed and have to replace everything because I have older generation. 7k out of warranty.

I appreciate the service center getting me in same day and rapid diagnosis but being just out of warranty really sucks.

And they are charging to take off running boards and will not put them back on.

Being told “you did get 64,000 miles out of them so that’s good” and “you can take it somewhere else for repairs if you like” didn’t sit well.

If you just have a single bum damper, it should be feasible to have an independent shop fix it by replacing just the damper.

It's a ton of work though because of the hydraulic system. And bleeding that properly requires special hardware that most shops aren't going to have.

If you just have a single bum damper, it should be feasible to have an independent shop fix it by replacing just the damper.

It's a ton of work though because of the hydraulic system. And bleeding that properly requires special hardware that most shops aren't going to have.

We need 3rd party shops certified to fix Rivian. Isn't there a law that they have to allow this to be possible?

This is the main reason I avoided the R1S and R1T series. The suspension is clearly a failure point. It's the reason I'm interested in the R2 and NOT the R1s. Note I did not say weak point. I really think that Rivian should charge customers something for out of warranty repairs, but it should be at cost until you exceed 100k miles. Rivian should reward early adopters not bleed the bank accounts.

If it helps ease the pain... The replacement parts and repair would be covered by a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty if installed by Rivian.

I would assume there are some out there, but the bespoke tool investment and HV Certification is likely the biggest hurtle. I wonder if the incentive is there for a price competitive shop make that investment?

We are hearing one side of 7k repair bill. I'm sure from the techs point of view they were sympathetic and cordial.

The suspension on the R1T is the best suspension on a production vehicle ever made in my opinion.

It's also one of the most expensive to upkeep.
