SMFH. That is what insurance companies want you to think. use the effing coverage you're paying for.
This. I pay for insurance to use it when I need it. They have no qualms about taking my money every year without a single claim so when I do I expect they will pay out.

To be clear, I do have insurance and don't have any problem using it if needed. I also don't anticipate having any issues with my insurance company covering the cost as I have full glass coverage.

My issue is needing to go through insurance when I don't believe this was caused by anything I did. Sadly, I think its cavalier to think in this day and age that a claim won't have any impact on your premium.

FWIW I had a 15k claim on my R1S and recent renewals for my other vehicles were lower (which makes sense since the cars are 6 months older than last time they renewed). Homeowners was $5 higher; $5,000,000 umbrella shot up $11. YMMV.

But it is sad to me when people don't use what they are paying for. I mean, see if you can cancel you glass coverage to save some on the premium if you're not going to use it.

I've had our R1S for about 3 months now. We've had three service center visits as well as two at home visits
Sounds like you got lucky. I've been waiting for 3 months for my first visit. Being able to schedule 5 appointments within that time sounds awesome!

Sorry to hear that, and I can only imagine the pain. I'm very lucky to only be a couple miles from the Denver SC. They seem to be on their game and I've never had the car there for more than a day. They have also gotten very efficient in scheduling to ensure all needed parts are there on hand so they aren't sitting on cars they can't acutally service.

Fingers crossed you get yours in soon!

I hate hearing all this. I have been one of the lucky ones who just got the truck and drove it. I have yet to have any further contact with Rivian. I covered our glass roof the day we got the truck. It will remain this way as long as we have it. The glass roof, the powered tonneau cover, and the camp speaker were all stupid ideas.

@moosetags how did you cover it?

We had one rock chip hit our windshield and surprising enough it didn't crack, but reading stories on here caused lots of concern.

I'm glad to hear Rivian decided to cover the repair OP. Hopefully your issues have come to an end.

We've seen a few instances of the glass breaking from the outside when someone puts some pressure on it. And I think we saw one where the outside cracked from no apparent reason.

This is the first we (I) have heard of one cracking from the inside, so there's no way this becomes any kind of class action.
Second. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/cracked-pano-glass-from-the-inside.12875/

But close enough. Doesn't seem to be wide spread but I definitely avoid contact with the roof.

I don't think it's even glass to begin with. I often change in the back seat of my truck and bump into the ceiling and it sounds more like a plastic than it does glass. I guess could just be because its a very thin glass compared to door or windshield glass and why it sounds different when you tap on it.

I tinted my ceiling glass to reduce cabin temperature. Hopefully that also adds an additional layer of protection from this kind of thing happening. I guess if PPF is good enough to prevent rock chips on the front of a vehicle, should be enough to prevent damage from minor impacts of the glass?

Sadly, it appears to be a weak spot of the vehicle and others have shattered their roofs as well. Some got a courtesy coverage under warranty while others have had to pay for it out of pocket. Most of the other ones that shattered did so because of impacts. Light impacts, but impacts none the less. Definitely an area of this rugged adventure vehicle that you have to be quite careful with.

I purchased the sun shade with heat insulation cover from Rivigear on Amazon back in April. It was about $50. I checked on Amazon. It is no longer there. Here are a couple of pictures of it installed in Opal.

Some people have tinted the ceiling and had no issues, and it seems like a logical step that might help. On the other hand, some people have posted that installers refuse to do the roof glass because it can contribute to cracking.

Exactly. Hard to know what to do. +1 for "would've purchased the vehicle without the glass roof". I pick up my R1S on the 15th. Tinting is on my checklist to discuss at pickup.

SMFH. That is what insurance companies want you to think. use the effing coverage you're paying for.
FWIW, when I shopped around for my Rivian auto insurance to compare w/ what Rivian/Nationwide would offer, my insurance agent said the insurance industry (not just auto) is in a state not seen since the '70s where they are looking to recoup their loses from the last 3+ years. He said he has a customer (single mother and her daughter) with PERFECT driving records and ZERO claims but who had 3 no-fault accidents (other party's insurance company paid) in the same year, so they were dropped by their insurance company when renewal came up, and he could NOT find any other company to pick them up, so their only recourse was the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund (MAIF) which is now charging them $14k/year!

Sounds unbelievable except that when I went to get a rate through Rivian (Nationwide), Nationwide refused to offer me a policy unless I dropped my 19 year old college student daughter who has a perfect driving record, never filed a claim, and currently has a good student discount; I didn't get an explanation as to why they wouldn't cover her but she did have a no-fault accident last November which the other insurance company paid.

Also, our home owners insurance policy just went up 30% and we've NEVER had a claim.

So, not a great time to be filing any claims unless you can't afford the out-of-pocket yourself, IMHO.
