It doesn't look like it's one of those flimsy foil shades you can get an AutoZone. It looks like a thick, foldable version of a covercraft uvs100 and is similarly priced.

Over the weekend we got a firm delivery for our new R1S (Yaay) so perusing the gear shop for some potential accessories noticed the price of this. Does anyone own this and I'm guessing you stripped the platinum foil off after receiving and sold it for thousands of dollars. What could possibly warrant a 500% markup over marketplace......or is it that logo?
I had same hot take when the item was first added to Gear Shop. However, after trying several under $40 options from eBay and not being fully satisfied, I decided to "buy right once, cry once". It is indeed worth the asking price.

The material is thick, stiff and durable. Its size is damn near perfect. This is not your ordinary flimsy, one-size-fits-all sunshade. It did take almost a month from payment to delivery, but I think it's a drop-ship item from the manufacturer... which could very well be Covercraft. Aside from brand-specific traits, it's nearly identical to Covercraft's top-of-the-line sunshade and cost about the same ($10 or so difference). The elastic strap and velcro is also not what you'd typically find on sunshades. It's high quality.

Are there alternatives that cost less and could be "good enough" to you? Of course. However, as is typical of most aftermarket offerings... they tend to lack a certain level of refinement. Even ones that are deemed "good". Damn near perfect is what you are paying extra for with OE.

I don’t know when you got ours, but judging by the price - a long time ago as the price has been $25 for quite a while. I’ve made enormous improvements in both quality and design since. We now make them with carbon fiber infused abs. Here is completely unedited photo, leather inserts not in yet.
Not saying anything against Rivian’s, just saying that the quality now is not like the quality a year ago.

TWraps is $25 + $7 for shipping +$2 tax is $34 OTD

Rivian is $45 +$0 shipping + $3 tax is $48 OTD

Total difference of $14.

I stand by my previous opinions. I do think the TWraps is the best aftermarket option (why I bought it last year), but the OEM one is unquestionably better in functionality, materials, finish, fit ect.

I bought one using my referral points, so it doesn't sting as bad. I've used the sunshade once and quickly realized what a PIA it is to remove my radar detector and fastrak responder each time I want to put up the sunshade.

I purchased this one for under $25 and was very happy with it. It kept the sun out, and it twists up like a figure 8 then that twists in to two circles that fold flat on to each other which store flat in the provided pouch that can fit under the rear seat. Super handy, inexpensive ant it works great..

Seems odd to complain about a $125 sunshade when one is purchasing a $100k+ vehicle.
It is, but there are also many sunshades on the market for far less—setting an expectation. And the quality difference is not something one could readily tell based on pictures alone. Once you hold one in hand, and have tactile knowledge, it'll be immediately clear why Rivian's cost more.

Just the opposite, when you spend $100K for a vehicle, you need to save on everything after that purchase ;)

Extremely happy with this one in ā€œGrey Safeguardā€ option. I’d say the build quality is as close as it gets to OEM Rivian

Edit: states that it does not fit 2025 R1, but I can confirm that it does indeed.

I have the $125 Rivian sunshade. It feels exactly like the $90 sunshade I purchased for my previous vehicle, but I'm sure the extra $35 is for the logo.

In case one hasn't noticed, nothing in the gear shop is cheap. You can buy once cry once or buy a cheaper version on Amazon which may or may not work as well.

Seems silly to complain about an unnecessary $125 accessory on a +$100k vehicle. Just wait until one needs to replace consumables like brakes & tires.

I paid 45 dollars for a Gary doll. Talk about a waste of money. He’s my copilot tho.

There's truth to that. With any luxury or premium car, one thing is universal and to be expected: Things you expect to be inexpensive are unexpectedly expensive. And that's just a consequence of you having expensive taste (in cars).

I have the sunshade, it works but it’s bulky and there is absolutely nowhere to put it. It goes to the back floorboard, then gear tunnel when the kids get in and I usually forget about it for a while. It works better in the Texas sun than others I tried.

I also have the first gen TWraps organizer, one of the best things I’ve spent money on even if printed and rough around the edges ?
