The funny thing is, I think the front door and the charge port color is the right color, ie half moon grey.

I think it’s the rest of the car that’s wrong in El Cap Grey. 😆
…got the coveted collectors edition!!

If you zoom in on the charge port door there appear to be some paint issues as well, not just the wrong color.

This is very bad!

100% a paint mismatch that Rivian needs to take care of (by having a body shop repaint the 2 panels making sure to properly blend into surrounding panels - the blend is critical). It's frustrating to have to deal with but it happens.

I had a similar paint problem back in late 2003 when I purchased a 2004 BMW. The driver's door had been damaged somewhere in transit and the door had been repainted. Unfortunately the body shop didn't bother to blend into the surrounding panels so the slight color mismatch was quite obvious in certain lighting conditions. The dealership I had purchased from took care of it no questions asked and it came back looking perfect.

Nope, nope. Have them swap you into a new vehicle. My first R1T had very bad silver paint. It was gonna have to be fully repainted. They bought it back. This was very early days of 2022, so they were aiming to please, but I'd try for that if I were you.

I agree, blending or attempting to do so typically does not work out well.

new car time, let them use this one for parts. they will never get it completely right, especially on the inside, so it will always look like you got a shit repair job at a cash only back yard shop...

kinda curious how long you have had it until you noticed?

The main thing is neither of those parts are used on the R1S so they should have never gone down the line for an El Cap paint.

More than likely there are other parts that have the same off color (Half Moon Gray) on another car.

Failure to blend is what does not work out well. Blending into adjacent panels is standard practice and necessary for a quality result. About the only time blending doesn't work well is when the original paint is already heavily faded due to age, something that is not a concern here.

If Rivian will provide another vehicle, great. But it isn't necessary to resolve your paint mismatch.
