Was this document I think for that. Probably a piece of PVC with the right ID would do.
That's the doc! And a great idea, I expect forum wide deployment of PVC based DIY ting washer presses by Sunday evening.

But seriously, I might bring one to Lowe's and see what I can craft!

I'd say you want a sleeve that is slightly larger than the stub shaft to allow the locking tines on the washer to bend as it is pushed on. Chamfering the inside of the "tool" surface might help. Without the Rivian tool you can't prebend the tines.

Put some measurements up for the ting washer I'm sure someone can model it for 3d printing. Just need a tube and cone. I might be able to but short on time at the moment.so not sure I can get done quickly.

Y'all are way smarter than me. Standby!

I also have access to a 3D printer and smart shipmates who make cool stuff for training aids. I'll see if the can whip it up too. I know if I had access to a real tool, they could scan and clone it.

Just getting my r1t back from service. They replaced Ting Washers and lubed the front left wheel half shaft; said had corrosion and debris

These bad boys are real stiff... I'm not sure 3D printed, or even PVC, would be able to press/bend them.

So that'll be a piece of 2-2.25" steel Pipe to hammer those on and hope they go on straight and flush.

Maybe putting the edge in a vice, bending a tine slightly, rotating in the vice and repeat.

I'm guessing the tines get wedged between the CV and the hub. Then the cap screw sandwiches it all so the parts can't move independently and squeak.

Yeah 3d print won't work if they are thick. Maybe a long 40mm socket and a 30mm ball bearing to prebend the tines, the halfshaft spline is 35mm.

I have not read many of these pages. But I just had my half-shafts replaced after noticing “the sound” when slowly doing a turn, usually to my left, kinda like a U-turn.

I'm bringing this over from my other thread to hit a bigger halfshaft audience.

I've been running in strictly Conserve mode for a couple days after a suspected rear drive unit failure. Before failure, I noticed a lot of clicks and tocks and telltale halfshaft knocking noises building over the last 9 months. I even bought grease to lube up during my next wheel swap and ordered ting washers (though I likely won't replace them DIY since they aren't pre-bent).

But in Conserve, the tocks and noises are 95% gone! What say you?

The rear motor is geared lower so those shafts get more torque. The duals with the automatic conserve run the front shafts more. My front ones are noisier. Grease helped but the sound came back a little. Not as noticable. If I slopped it I'm sure it would by even better but maybe make a mess.

So I guess they have to replace hubs and shafts to temporarily fix the issue. Who would have guessed that 600+hp in a front wheel drive mini van would cause driveline issues?

Was typing this up in the other thread, but also thought it was somewhat relevant here.

Dropped my truck off for regular service today but also to have them look at the driveline. occasionally, you can hear the driveline components on the front drivers engaging one another, its not all the time, and hard to replicated, which is super annoying. It sounds like rocks underwater bumping together as it engages the wheel, only at that instant, otherwise, no issue.

On the rear, if I'm on a hill facing up, slow to a stop, stop for a few moments, and then start off again, I can hear the same sound mentioned above, but also a slight clunk from the rear and a bit of a jolt (quite slight) from the rear as the motors engage the wheels.

Service center tech did a ride with me, I could only replicate the front once. Unfortunately due to the area we drove around, I wasn't able to replicate the rear issue. He said they'd look over it, wasn't sure if anything would come of it, but they'd make sure everything was okay from their end.

Honestly, I considered removing the ticket, but figured why not have them check in case it was a lead up to something more.
